HAPPY HOMECOMING FOR JACK ASIS

PhilBoxing.com

IBO World Champion Jack Asis to fight in the Garden City on June 27.

IN A BLOCKBUSTER ANNOUNCEMENT IBO Super featherweight World Champion Jack Asis will fight on the 'TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 10' card at Rumours International on June 27.

Asis is the adopted son of Toowoomba and a true crowd favourite and the champ admits this fight will be one of the most special of his career.

"This is my home mate," Asis said with his trademark grin.

"I want to fight for everyone in Toowoomba, I had to travel to Newcastle to win the title now I want to showcase this belt to my home crowd.

"I love Toowoomba, everyone has supported me so much so this one is very special.

Adding to the occasion Asis is honoured to fight on a card that will feature a tribute to one of his great friends Brayd Smith.

"When I won the title, I dedicated it to Brayd, when I got home I went straight straight to the Pittsworth cemetery to celebrate with my great mate.

"To fight on this card and to be a part of this tribute is something that means so much to me.

"Brayd and I were great sparring partners and training partners but we were even better friends.

"June 27 will be a very special fight night for me," Asis said.

The inclusion of Jack Asis only adds to a huge card which already features former Australian Champion Will Young, Kris George's first defence of his WBA Oceania title and a Queensland State title between Herman Ene-Purcell and Joel Clifton.

"It doesn't get much bigger than a reigning World champion fighting on the card," Brendon Smith said.

"Jack Asis is in elite company in World boxing.

"He sits beside fellow IBO World champions like Wladamir Klitschko and Gennedy Golovkin.

"Now Jack's huge fan base gets a chance to see him fight in Toowoomba as the World Champion.

"Jack loves Toowoomba and Toowoomba loves Jack so this is a great announcement.

"As the champion Jack can fight anywhere in the World, but there is no place like home - the World can wait.

"Toowoomba deserves to see Jack Asis so that's what we're going to do on June 27.

"What comes after that - who knows.

"I'm close to signing off on an opponent and we will make that announcement in the coming weeks," Smith said.

Toowoomba is a happy hunting ground for Jack Asis. He's unbeaten in 7 bouts in the Garden City. His last local bout was in October last year when he knocked out Brazilian Isaias Santos Sampaio to win the WBA Oceania super featherweight belt.

"I would love to fight all my fights in Toowoomba," Asis said.

"I'm a proud filipino but I'm also a very proud Toowoomba local too.

"This fight is for Toowoomba and it's to honour my mate Brayd.

"I don't like talking, I like to fight, so I'm just concentrating on training with my team.

"I say to all my supporters - It's showtime June 27, I hope to see you all there.
