HERMANATOR TO RE-CREATE HEAVYWEIGHT HISTORY ON JUNE 27

PhilBoxing.com

Herman Ene-Purcell set for the biggest fight of his career at TGW & SMITHY BRING THE BIG FIGHTS 10 taking on Joel Clifton for the Qld Heavyweight title.

TOOWOOMBA'S EXPLOSIVE HEAVYWEIGHT PROSPECT Herman Ene-Purcell will re-create history when he challenges for the Queensland Heavyweight title next month. The last time a State heavyweight title was held in the garden city was August 27, 1910 when David 'Chewy' Williams knocked out Joe Lee in the seventh round to claim the belt.

105 years later Herman Ene-Purcell hopes to follow in the footsteps of Williams and collect the State heavyweight belt when he takes on Brisbane's Joel Clifton on June 27.

"It's incredible to think it's been so long since a State heavyweight title has been held here," Ene-Purcell said.

"I have a great respect for past history and to be able to fight for the same belt Chewy Williams won here in 1910 is very special to me.

"Hopefully I can beat Joel Clifton and after that we won't have to wait anywhere near 105 years before the next heavyweight state title bout,"Ene Purcell said.

Brisbane's Joel Clifton presents the biggest challenge in Ene-Purcell's fledgling career.

Clifton is from the strong Corporate Box Gym in Brisbane under the guidance of leading trainer and former Australian champion Shannon 'Shaggy' King.

"This is a big fight for Herman," Trainer/Manager Brendon Smith said.

"The history books show the Chewy Williams vs Joe Lee heavyweight bout was an absolute classic and one of Australia's most talked about bouts in 1910. 105 year's later I can't see this one being any different.

"Both of these boys know how to punch.

"Big Cliffo has won two of his three bouts - both inside the distance.

"Herman has now won five of his eight fights, including three in a row and all by way of first round knock out.

"They're the top two ranked heavyweight's available to fight for the belt."Smith said.

This bout is one that's been brewing for some time. Clifton's camp has been pursuing it strongly in recent months.

"Clifton's camp was interested in hosting this bout in Brisbane last month but with with the passing of Brayd it was impossible," Smith said.

"I would like to thank fellow promoter Angelo Di Carlo and Shaggy King for their professionalism in helping get this deal done.

"It will be a special night with a final tribute to my son Brayd and it's great we've been able to secure a State title fight between Joel and Herman on the night.

"Angelo and Shaggy are wonderful people and it's guys like this who make it easy to bring big fight's to Queensland."

Ene-Purcell is excited by the opportunity to lock horns with another of Queensland's top heavyweight prospects.

When you look at the record's of both boxers there is one form line you can match - they both hold wins over Jamie Frost.

Ene-Purcell holds a four round unanimous decision victory while Clifton was more impressive earning a TKO victory.

"I have immense respect for Joel Clifton and his team," Ene-Purcell said.

"Shaggy King always has his boxer's in great shape and they have a big fan base so no doubt their will be plenty of support travelling up to support Joel Clifton.

"Hopefully everyone from Toowoomba can come out and support me.

"This is my first title fight and I'm blessed to have this opportunity so now I have to make the most of it.
