FIGHTING FISHERMAN REELS IN HOMETOWN TITLE DEFENCE. PhilBoxing.com Thu, 23 Apr 2015 Kris George to make his first title defence on June 27 at TGW & SMITHY BRING THE BIG FIGHTS 10. TOOWOOMBA'S FIGHTING FISHERMAN AND WBA OCEANIA SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION Kris 'The Silencer' George will return from injury and defend his title on June 27 at Rumours International on the much anticipated card TGW & Smithy bring the big fights 10. George is undefeated in seven bouts and hasn't been in the ring since October last year when he defeated Amor Tino to win the WBA Oceania title. "The injury has been frustrating, but it's 110% now so that's the good thing," Kris George said. "In my absence I watched all the fights on March 14 up here and I also traveled to Newcastle to watch Jack Asis beat Kye Mackenzie so that only further fueled the fire for me. "I can't wait to get back into the ring and defend my WBA Oceania title and hopefully progress further up the rankings." George's Manager Brendon Smith expressed his thanks to WBA Oceania Secretary Derek Milham for his patience while the fighting fisherman overcame his injury. "Derek Milham has been very understanding and we can't thank him enough," Brendon Smith said. "This is a title we treat with great respect and we're extremely grateful the WBA has supported Kris during his rehabilitation from a broken hand. "I'm in deep discussions with Derek regarding an opponent for Kris on June 27. "Kris is a big name in Australia and with this WBA title he's now also known world wide so we've had plenty of interest from different parts of the globe. "We're in discussions with opponents at the moment so we should have an announcement in the coming weeks." WBA Oceania Secretary Derek Milham added. "The WBA Oceania is looking forward to our undefeated champion Kris George defending his title after an enforced injury layoff." "We eagerly await the occasion to further assist the winner of this much anticipated title defence on the WBA path," Milham said. ![]() |
