REMINISCENT OF JUDAS

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES - Indeed, history repeats itself.

The incident occurred last Thursday afternoon during Mayweather?s media day in Las Vegas.

Two guys played a different role reminiscent of Judas Iscariot and Apostle Peter.

The victim this time was not Jesus but freelance videographer Paul Morales.

Judas Iscariot was one of the 12 original disciples of Jesus Christ. He betrayed The Son of God to the Sanhedrin in exchange for 30 silver coins.

My mole, who managed to sneak in past the security cordon of undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr., informed me that Morales was already taking video footage inside when he was ordered to get out.

Courtesy of James Dayap, Filipino videographer of the Mayweather camp.

Good that Dayap just tipped off Morales? presence. He should have kissed Morales on the cheek to consummate his role as modern-day Judas.

?I felt betrayed as we were friends. In fact, we were cordial to each other when we met prior to the start of Mayweather?s media workout,? Morales said during a mobile phone interview.

Only few journalists noticed the incident. They were busy with the coverage. That could have been a good story.

?The journalists were busy covering Mayweather?s media day. I took video clips of what happened but I was warned by the security personnel to stop it,? my mole bared.

The artist in Morales did not surface. He should have screamed on top of his voice to get media attention. He was there to cover, not to spy.

Dispatching Morales to play the role of an infiltrator is a harebrained idea. There?s an expert who can be hired to do such a job.

Morales went there as a freelance videographer. His trip was not sanctioned by the Team Pacquiao. He went there on his own.

I guess, Dayap got an extra bonus from his boss for betraying his compatriot. As to how much, that I do not know. But I?m sure it?s more than what Judas had received for betraying Jesus.

The Mayweather team, I was told, had also confronted Winchell Campos, a member of Team Pacquiao, who went there only to witness Mayweather?s media workout.

My mole, however, overheard Campos saying ?I?m already into sports writing. I was given a clearance by your team to attend in this media workout.?

Sometimes, playing the role of Apostle Peter to get us off the hook is not actually a mortal sin.

In The New Testament, Apostle Peter was the one who denied knowing Jesus when He was arrested by His persecutors.

Unscathed, Campos was laughing ear-to-ear on his way back here.
