?MAYWEATHER-PACQUIAO? HEADED FOR DISAPPOINTING NUMBERS?

PhilBoxing.com

Hail, it?s for the mammon god, not for the fans.

The person?s sentiment represents that of countless others around the world. He?s a boxing fan but apparently the same concern is the reason why, two weeks to fight date, I am tackling greed rather than discussing about how Pac and Floyd can outbox or outrun each other; or how ?Mayweather-Pacquiao? can be dubbed afterward as the most boring and disappointing fight ever.

Mr. Razor is the man who just emailed yours truly, and here?s what he feels about the Mega Bout: ?I hope the fight won?t live up to their expectation that it will shatter all time record on revenue... Majority will not have the opportunity to see it live on TV? I might share with my friends and family to watch or just wait for the news and watch it on replay? AFTER 5 YEARS OF WAITING, THEY DENIED THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THE MAJORITY. This is bad for the sport of boxing although the fight is (supposedly) great for the fans. I think this might be the start of downfall of PPV especially greed has more to do with it than the pleasure of the fans. I will boycott in paying a PPV.?

Greed?s problem is not money, it?s the human heart.

?Pac-Floyd? is turning out to be purely pure business. And so the producers set the pay-per-view, venue and other prices at an avaricious level, waving a magic wand, and with only their pockets and bank accounts to consider.

Poor sport. ?Mayweather-Pacquiao? is decisively exclusive for elite millionaires. The fans are left out or set to become bait for sharks that lurk in shallow waters. The boxing contest is not about boxing anymore, neither is it about Pacquiao and Mayweather, much less about the fans. Historic, the richest fight in boxing may just turn out to be the richest in greed and covetousness.

MGM Grand?s ticket price ranges from $1,500 (P67500) to $7,500 (P337,500) which goes to show that even the lowest price already eclipses the moon and it is computed, on the average, to be about 700% more expensive than those of the previous big fights of Mayweather and Pacquiao. No wonder they?re allotting very limited tickets to the public.

It is reported that even the people that would be booked in Las Vegas hotels, by the time of the fight, will be purposely deprived of PPV cable so that they?ll be compelled to watch inside the arena. Certainly this is why until now no ticket has been released yet.

Those in their homes will end up paying up to a whopping, unprecedented $100 (P4,500) to be able to watch the fight live on TV. In my country the Philippines, ticket prices in theaters have ballooned to P800 up to as high as P1,200 per person while previously it was from P250 to P450 for a Pacquiao fight.
Obviously, the Mega Bout is all profit, profit and profit. Hence the infighting persists to this day as the potential earnings of the show continue to grab headlines.

?There is a sufficiency in the world for man?s need but not for man?s greed.? - Mahatma Gandhi

The MGM May 2 event is no longer exciting to this writer. People start losing interest in the bout notwithstanding the popular boxers involved in it. The Super Fight could be headed to a great disappointment in terms of financial gain and fight outcome. And the biggies in both the camps of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., together with those of the giant networks, have only themselves to blame.

?Greed is so destructive. It destroys everything.? - Eartha Kitt

The press gimmicks seem to be ?working? and ?effective.? Media is again being used and abused because the producers know, by ?free media,? they can save millions of dollars in press tours, paid advertisements and promotions, everything to their own advantage. The corrupt minded are, thus far, found out. Note that without media, ?Pac vs. Floyd? may be equal to zero.

They made a mistake. I have been offered or bribed. But can I betray my Lord and ruin my soul? Who are you? No tyrant can bribe nor intimidate me. I?ve been writing since college days and been into business for many years. But, oh, I?ve not been into bribery and never succumbed to threats. There was not even a single instance that I bribed a traffic officer on the road to get off the hook. I don?t write for money as I keep saying. And I intend to continue writing as the inspiration comes and for as long as the Holy Spirit leads. God is my stronghold.

Even before it reaches its hype-peak, ?Mayweather-Pacquiao? may be destined for damn and doom. We call it the richest fight ever, but who are the very few who are becoming ever richer and filthier at the expense of paying fans? ?Selfishness and greed, individual or national, cause most of our troubles.? - Harry Truman. Indeed, there is no end to avarice until you end up in the bottomless pit.

The fight?s chief goal seems to suck everyone until everyone turns pale.

Be sane.
