BOOTS VS. STANIONIS – ‘MAKE THE DAYS COUNT’ PREMIERES NOW

PhilBoxing.com

Welterweight champs closing in on unification blockbuster in Atlantic City

The countdown to Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and Eimantas Stanionis’ Welterweight unification blockbuster is on – and Matchroom’s cameras exclusively visited both camps for our pre-fight documentary ‘Make The Days Count’ – which is premiering NOW on YouTube.

Boots and Stanionis clash at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on Saturday April 21, live worldwide on DAZN, with the IBF, WBA and Ring Magazine titles on the line.

Ennis (33-0 29 KOs) has been working away with his father and trainer Bozy in their gym in Philadelphia, while Stanionis (15-0 9 KOs) started camp at home in Lithuania before relocating to Los Angeles to fine tune his approach to the showdown.

“I’m the best in the world in the Welterweight division,” said Ennis. ‘Whatever he does, I do better. I don’t think he’s watched my fights; I never get tired. It’s going to be a long night for him. It’s my belt and his belt; it’s time to Claim The Crown.”

“We’re going into deep waters,” said Stanionis. “They are building a superstar, but I am going to f**k up all their plans! He’s a good fighter but we all have two hands, two legs - No one is unbeatable. I’m coming to fight; I’ll be standing all night that’s for sure.

“Everything is set,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “It’s the fight of the division, number one vs number two. It’s the fight to show how special Jaron is. It’s setup perfectly for what I believe is the next superstar of boxing. Stanionis has the style that could make me lean towards an Ennis KO in this fight. But he also has the style to turn this into a war, I can’t wait.”

Boots and Stanionis clash on a huge night of action in Atlantic City, where Raymond Ford continues his pursuit to becoming a two-time, two-weight World champion as he faces Thomas Mattice for the WBA Continental North America Super-Featherweight title.

Ford fights at 130lbs for the second time after moving up from Featherweight in November and routing Orlando Gonzalez over ten rounds in Philadelphia. ‘Savage’ won the WBA World title at 126lbs with a stunning last gasp KO win over Otabek Kholmatov in March in Verona, NY and was edged out in his first defense by a razor-thin split decision reversal against Nick Ball in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in June.

Ford sits pretty in the rankings across all the governing bodies and will be eyeing that second World title shot in the back end of the year, but Mattice will see that as a carrot dangled for him, and ‘Gunna Man’ will relish the chance to upset Ford’s plans.

Arturo Cardenas defends his WBC Continental Americas Super-Bantamweight title against Christian Carto, Shakhram Giyasov fights over ten rounds against an opponent to be named soon as the Uzbek man waits for his shot at a World title, Team USA’s Olympic bronze medal man Omari Jones fights for the second time in the paid ranks after an electric pro debut in Orlando, while the Before The Bell action sees three young tri-state talents in action as Atlantic City’s Francisco Rodriguez takes on Camden, New Jersey’s Naheem Parker over eight rounds at Lightweight, Philadelphia’s Tahmir Smalls takes on Washington DC’s Bermudan Earl Bascome over eight rounds at Welterweight and Newark, New Jersey’s Zaquin Moses takes on Alex Palette over four rounds at Super-Featherweight.
