Cartel, 5 others share lead after Day 1 of 6th AQ Prime Standard Open Chess Tournament

Gabriel James Cartel toppled NM Phil Martin Casiguran to grab the share of the lead after three rounds of the 6th AQ Prime Standard Open Chess Tournament at the Mall Atrium, SM City Masinag, Antipolo City on Saturday.
Cartel, one of the top players of Arellano University chess team, improved his total to 3.0 points, the same output of NM Jasper Faeldonia, NM Jeremy Marticio, Jerico Santiaguel, Edwin Carnese and Daniel Baylosis, his fourth round opponent.
"I hope to sustain my momentum," said Cartel, who hails from Barangay Pinugay, Baras, Rizal.
Earlier, Cartel defeated Sean Ethan Castillo and Marius Constante in the first two rounds.
NM Carlo Magno Rosaupan’s winning run came to a halt following a draw with Stephen Zane Quinto.
Thus, Rosaupan raised his total 2.5 points. Also with 2.5 points are Quinto, Emmanuel Barbosa, John Andrew Garcia, Jin Clark Myco Miranda, Samson Chiu Chin LIM Iii, Darwin Padrigone, Bobbie Alota and Joss Ivan Davalan.
The two-day (Saturday and Sunday) standard event (60 minutes with 30 seconds increment time control format), backed by AQ Prime CEO Atty. Aldwin Alegre, offers P10,000 to the champion.
Tournament director is IA / FM / FT Rudy Ibanez while Chief Arbiter is FA / NI Francis Ramos and assisted by Deputy Chief Arbiter NA Ellfred Chessander Chay.-Marlon Bernardino-
