LOS ANGELES ? Undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. would be fighting a hardy beast in Manny Pacquiao come May 2 in Las Vegas.
Restituto ?Buboy? Fernandez and Raides ?Nonoy? Neri, Pacquiao?s assistant trainer and assistant conditioning coach respectively, described their best friend as a freak.
Pacquiao, Fernandez & Neri have been the best of friends since their boyhood days in General Santos City.
Fernandez said Pacquiao right now is in the best shape of his life.
Neri agreed, saying ?He had never been so quick and so strong as a boxer. He doesn?t get tired and his tolerance to pain is unbelievable.?
On Friday morning, Pacquiao went on a seven-mile high-altitude road work in Mt. Hollywood then capped it with more than a thousand abdominal workout.
?We?ve been together for years but we are still mesmerized by what our boyhood buddy is showing to us inside and outside of the training camp. His hardwork and attitude in training is simply beyond compare,? Fernandez said.
Fernandez doubts if we could still find another Pacquiao in the next 100 years.
?Our country is so blessed to have him and we are so lucky to have been part of his breathtaking journey towards boxing immortality,? Fernandez said.
Neri bared that Pacquiao went through 26 rounds of backbreaking and punishing workout on Friday afternoon at the Wild Card Boxing gym.
?He spent 13 rounds in punch mitts, four rounds in shadow boxing, three rounds of rigid leg workout then capped it with another six rounds of shadow boxing,? Neri said.
According to them, their prized ward is ready to face Mayweather in a 20-round brawl inside the ring.
Fernandez challenged Mayweather to be man enough and live up to what he claims that he?s the best.
?I challenged Mayweather to fight toe-to-toe with our Pinoy boxing idol. He should prove to the world even just for this fight that he?s not a poltroon,? Fernandez said.
