THE COUNTER PUNCH REPORT

FIGHT STYLE

This one is a bout between two very contrasting styles. Askew is a slick and awkward southpaw and Maxwell is a durable orthodox. Over four rounds the pace could be frantic.

KEYS TO VICTORY

Darren Askew ? Askew is a beautiful boxer who has been making some noise in Australian boxing since re-locating to Toowoomba. He will want to use his evasiveness and boxing skills on the outside to control the tempo of the fight. Look for Askew to ?stick and move? he will be the superior boxer between the pair. If he can control the bout from the outside Maxwell could very well prove to be target practice however the question mark is whether Askew is as quick and as strong at 70kg.

Daniel Roy Maxwell ? The Kiwi champion has two big things on his side ? experience. When it comes to styles there isn?t much he hasn?t seen either side of the Tasman. His record might not be flash but look at the names he?s boxed ? Bilal Akkawy, Sam Ah See, Gunnar Jackson, Cameron Hammond, Craig Hill jr, Rocky Jerkic, Paddy Murphy and the list goes on. Secondly the 70kg weight limit ? it?s a more natural weight for Maxwell as opposed to Askew who has fought as low as lightweight. He won?t outbox Darren Askew so he will want to catch him and slow him down. When he catches Askew he needs to make his punches count if not he?ll go giddy chasing the slick Englishmen around the ring.

FIGHT PREDICTION

This one is likely to be a ?bull and matador? contest. Maxwell the bull and Askew the matador. Askew should control this one from the outside and over four rounds he should be able to fight this one at a quick tempo which won?t suit Maxwell. Maxwell will hunt Askew and will be hoping to catch him and slow down his movements. If Askew controls the bout from the outside it will be an easy night at the office for him but if Maxwell breaks that rhythm and is able to stay on Askew?s chest and use his weight to push him around it could be a different story. A very intriguing little four rounder between the dual Australian State champion and the Kiwi National champion.
