NBA -- Mavs beat Lakers with strong fourth quarter finish

LOS ANGELES -- The Dallas Mavericks used a strong fourth quarter kick to dispose the Los Angeles Lakers, 100-93, on Sunday night at the Staples Center.
Trailing 77-75 after three quarters of play, the Mavs outscored the Lakers 25-16 in the last 12 minutes, ending their two-game slide.
Dallas shooting guard Monta Ellis broke out of a shooting slump and drilled 12 of 22 field goals for 31 points. The 29-year old All-Star also converted 5-of-7 from 3-point range.
Three other Mavs recorded double figures in points -- Al Farouq Aminu (13 points and 5 rebounds), Dirk Nowitzki (12) and Chandler Parsons (11 and 6 rebounds).
The Mavericks shot a high 48.7 percent from the field and a decent 34.6 percent from long distance. But they missed 7 of 22 free throws for a low 68.2 percent clip from the stripe.
Carlos Boozer topped the Lakers with 17 points and 8 rebounds off the bench while Wesley Johnson and Jordan Clarkson each had 15 with Clarkson adding 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
The Lakers made 38 of 82 field goals but missed 12 of their 14 triple attempts. The Lakers enjoyed a 47-33 edge on the boards but theu had 16 turnovers against Dallas' 7.
With their 46th loss in 62 starts, the Lakers fell to 14th place in the Western Conference, just 1 1/2 games better than the cellar-dwelling 14-47 Minnesota Timberwolves.
