TRAINER ?DODONG? DONAIRE COMPLAINS ABOUT DECISION FAVORING ESTRADA OVER JOEBERT ALVAREZ

PhilBoxing.com

Trainer Nonito ?Dodong? Donaire Sr, father/trainer of five division world champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire has complained about the ten round unanimous decision handed WBO/WBA flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada in his non-title bout against Filipino southpaw Joebert Alvarez in Sonora, Mexico last December 6.

In a head-butt marred fight Estrada won on the scorecards of all three judges which Donaire said the Mexicans ?picked all the judges and they won?t give it to us since it was not a title fight and there were no judges from neutral countries.?

The judges ? Roberto Valencia and Miguel Angel Velazquez both scored the fight 98-91 for Estrada while the third judge Martin Gonzalez gave it to the Mexican 98-92.

Donaire said the southpaw Alvarez was ?very good and hurt Estrada many times. I don?t know how the judges gave Joebert only one round.?

Boxing Scene?s Cliff Rold reported the margins were far too wide while the internet site Boxing Forum 24 had it much closer.
Donaire said he had asked the Estrada handlers for a rematch but they declined claiming Alvarez was ?too tough.?

Both fighters were cut in the opening round due to an accidental clash of heads with Alvarez cut over the left eye and Estrada over the right. Boxing Forum reported that Alvarez wasn?t intimidated by his highly regarded opponent and held his own for the most part.

Boxing Forum reported Estrada was warned for use of his head in round 2 while Alvarez looked very fast on his feet and very confident.

Alvarez letting his hands go in round 32 with some lovely quick stuff and gets in a solid body shot. Very poor round for Estrada. Unofficial scorecard 29-28 Estrada.

Boxing Forum noted a solid body shot and good straight left by Alvarez with Estrada backing off under pressure. Alvarez makes it interesting with his speed.

In round 6 Joebert connects with cracking left to the head while Estrada lands a hard right. Unofficial scorecard 58-56 Estrada.
While blood streams from Alvarez cut. He lands a huge body shot and s sharp left upstairs but Estrada rips a solid shot that rocks Alvarez to his heels at the bell. Estrada leads 68-65 unofficially at end of seven.

Nice shot from Alvarez in the 8th while Estrada looked sluggish. Speedy Filipino lands a hard left. 78-74 Estrada.

Blood trickling from Alvarez cut in the 9th round and a little later another clash of heads sees both fighters walk away in a bit of pain. At the end of a close round its unofficially 87-84 for Alvarez.

Boxing Forum wrapped it up by saying it was ?a terrible performance? by Estrada and predicted that if Top Rank promoter Bob Arum matches Estrada against any fighter from the top ten, he?s be beaten.

Donaire suggested that in order to get a fair appreciation of Joebert Alvarez? performance fight fans should watch the fight on YouTube.
