PACQUIAO'S TOTAL ENTOURAGE TO MACAU: 350 By Aquiles Z. Zonio PhilBoxing.com Wed, 19 Nov 2014 Macau ? This one is for the Guinness Book of World Records. World eight-division boxing champion and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, with around 300 others in tow, flew to Macau, China around 4:45 p.m. Monday aboard two Airbus A320s of AirAsia. Mike Koncz, Pacquiao?s Canadian adviser, told Philboxing that more guests are coming from the Philippines on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. ?There were around 300 people who arrived in Macau with Cong. Manny Pacquiao last night. More are coming in the next few days before the fight. My safe estimate is a total of around 350 people,? Koncz said. Together with Pacquiao is his wife, Sarangani vice governor Jinkee Pacquiao and their youngest son Israel; his mother Dionisia; his father Rosalio; his brothers Ruel and Bobby; elder sister Isidra; several close relatives and friends, politicians and members of the media. Businessman Sid Protacio, a balikbayan friend of Pacman, said ?No boxer in history travels like Manny Pacquiao. I?m amazed with the sheer number of people who travel with him.? The Pacquiao entourage arrived around 8:24 p.m. at Macau airport where four chartered buses were waiting to transport the group to the Venetian Hotel Resort & Casino. Koncz claimed that the hotel management had to assign a huge conference hall, away from the front desk, to process the registration and hotel accommodation of Pacquiao entourage. ?Manny Pacquiao will shoulder the expenses on hotel accommodation, air fare and fight tickets of these 350 people. That?s how generous Manny Pacquiao is. He enjoys being with so many people,? Koncz said. Pacquiao will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Welterweight crown against undefeated American boxer Chris Algieri on Nov. 23 in Cotai Arena, Venetian, Macau. Meanwhile, Pacquiao said he?s more confident now than ever before. ?I?m more confident now compared with my previous fights. God is with me so why should I be worried?? Pacquiao said during interview. Pacquiao was oozing with confidence, saying he was expecting the fight wouldn?t last the distance. On Thursday last week, the Pinoy boxing superstar knocked down one of his sparring partners Stan Martyniouk halfway into the second round. That was the second time that the Fighter of the Decade sent Martyniouk to the canvass. When the Inquirer asked how he did it, Pacman humbly said ?Tsamba lang yon.? Pacman said he had reviewed the tapes of Chris Algieri?s previous fights. ?Pinag-aralan natin ng maige yong mga laban niya. Ayaw nating magkumpiyansa para hindi tayo masingitan. Kita n?yo naman ang tindi ng preparasyon para sa laban na ito,? Pacquiao said. He asked his countrymen to pray for his victory and safety during the fight. ?Hindi lang ito para sa akin, kung hindi para sa bansa natin at sa minamahal kong mga kababayan lalo na yong mahilig sa boksing,? Pacquiao said. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Aquiles Z. Zonio. |
