EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH PACQUIAO'S SPARRING PARTNER STAN 'THE MAN' MARTYNIOUK By Truth Esguerra PhilBoxing.com Fri, 05 Sep 2014 ![]() Martyniouk. San Carlos, Calif -- Trainer Freddie Roach has chosen boxing contender Stan "The Man" Martyniouk to be a sparring partner for Manny Pacquiao in preparation for his upcoming WBO welterweight title defense against the undefeated Chris Algieri on Nov 11th at the Cotai Arena in Macau China. "I ran into him (Roach) in LA about a few weeks ago and he asked me if I was interested in going to the Philippines and sparring Manny Pacquiao because he feels I have a similar style to Chris Algieri and would be able to give him (Pacquiao) the right sparring that he needs," said the 29 year-old Antelope, Calif, native. "Freddie has seen me for several years and knows how I fight." According to Martyniouk, he will spend the whole month getting in shape for the sparring session. He will depart with Roach on October 5th for Pacquiao's training camp, which will be spent entirely in the Philippines. "It feels great. It's like dreams do come true," a grateful Martyniouk said. "Thanks to Manny Pacquiao and Freddie Roach for going giving me the opportunity to come out with them to the Philippines. I will get Manny Pacquiao in tiptop shape and give him the best sparring that I can and he will come out victorious." Martyniouk believes he will provide invaluable sparring for Pacquiao due to his uncanny similarities with Aligieri; Both fighters have the same height at 5'10" and similar reach at 72". "The big similarities between me and Chris Algieri is that we both use our jab well, we both use our legs and we both move and not just stand in place," Martyniouk said. "We try to move and outbox our opponents." By possessing analogous styles, Martyniouk discreetly predicts that Algieri will attempt to outbox Pacquiao using his jab. "I think the problems Algieri will give him (Pacquiao) is keeping him on the distance and not letting him get inside to let his hands go. He is going to use that jab and move in different angles and try to keep Pacquiao in the distance," Martyniouk warned about Algieri's future tactics. "In the first three rounds, it's going to be a feel 'em fight. Chris is going to stay the outside and use his jabs just to see what Pacquiao does." He then predicts that Pacquiao will find a way to penetrate Algieri's defensive boxing strategy. "Pacquiao is going to be using his feints and figure out how to get inside, once he does that, he is going to let his hands go, and try to throw his explosive combinations, and try to outsmart Chris Algieri," Martyniouk said. "With Pacquiao, you never know what to expect with him. He is such a great fighter, he will figure you out. His style is very hard to fight against. He is very fast and very explosive. He will stop Chris Algieri in the late rounds." Despite having much confidence in Pacquiao, he still believes he should not underestimate the 30 year-old pugilist from Huntington, New York. "I hope Pacquiao doesn't take Chris Algieri lightly because he is a good fighter and you've seen what he did to Ruslan Provodnikov," alluded Martyniouk. "He is in really good tip top shape and he sticks to his game plan. He has the win on his mind, so wants to come victorious as well. He is not going in there to lose." Martyniouk (13-2-0) is currently training at the Undisputed Boxing Gym in San Carlos while his trainer Virgil Hunter prepares Andre Berto for his fight against Steve Chambers this Saturday and Alfredo Angulo for his upcoming fight against James De la Rosa on the undercard of Mayweather v. Maidana the following weekend.
