Gesta punishes and stops Arceo in San Francisco By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 19 Jul 2014 Gesta. Mercito ?No Mercy? Gesta punished and dominated a tough and sloppy Luis Arceo en route to a TKO win at the end of the 7th of their scheduled 10 round lightweight/junior welterweight contest at the Longshoremen?s Hall in San Francisco, California. Gesta dictated the tempo from the opening bell, confusing Arceo by starting in the orthodox stance and throwing fast combinations upstairs and downstairs. He quickly opened a cut in his opponent?s nose in the 2nd and the one time lightweight title contender from Mandaue City in the Philippines continued his assault on his opponent with hooks and uppercuts. By the 5th round, Arceo was bleeding profusely from the original cut and he suffered two additional cuts in his right eye as a result of the beating but the veteran fighter from Tijuana, Mexico kept coming forward and throwing against Gesta. The ring physician assessed Arceo?s facial lacerations before the start of the 6th and 7th and cautiously watched him in these two rounds. But despite his gallantry in these 2 rounds, Arceo received additional torture from the younger Gesta who just worsened his cuts with his accurate punching. The doctor was quick to his feet to approach Arceo after the 7th and after a quick neurologic test, he advised Referee Ed Collantes and the other ring officials to stop the fight to avoid further damage on Arceo. Stats showed how Gesta punished his opponent. He connected 38 % of his punches (166 of 442) against Arceo who only landed 20 % (95 of 485) of his output. Gesta wins his 2nd fight this year, after taking a 16 month layoff because of an injury that he suffered in camp. He improved his record to 28 wins (16 KOs), 1 defeat and 1 draw and continued his comeback trail towards campaigning for another world title in the future.
