SONSONA, SALUDAR LEAVE FOR U.S. SUNDAY By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Fri, 23 May 2014 Sonsona. Former world champion Marvin Sonsona and flyweight contender Froilan Saludar will leave for San Francisco in the United States on Sunday, May 25, ahead of their scheduled fights in New York and Puerto Rico respectively. They will be accompanied by Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani and Sonsona's manager Dr Rajan Yraola and wife as wells as Sonsona's trainer Jun Agrabio. Sonsona will rematch former world champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr of Puerto Rico on June 7 in the main PPV undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs Sergio Martinez WBC world middleweight championship at the Madison Square Garden in New York. Sonsona lost to Vazquez via 4th round knockout during their first encounter in Puerto Rico for the vacant WBO super bantamweight title. This time Sonsona and Vazquez will vie for the vacant NABF featherweight title. Team Sonsona will stay for 10 days at Nonito Donaire Sr's Gym in Oakland, CA for the last leg of their training and for Sonsona to adjust to the North American time zone before leaving for New York on June 3 in time for the press conference on June 4. According to Yraola, Sonsona is in excellent condition and has been sparring for 12 rounds everyday in the gym. ?We are ready and Marvin is in tip-top condition,? Yraola said. ?We are excited for this opportunity to be fighting in the main pay-per-view undercard on HBO in a huge fight between Miguel Cotto and Sergio Martinez,? Yraola added. Meanwhile, the undefeated Froilan Saludar (19-0-1, 12KO) will face McWilliams Arroyo (14-1-0, 12KO) of Puerto at the Coliseo Ruber Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on June 19 for the IBF flyweight title eliminator. The IBF flyweight champion is Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand. Saludar will spar with IBF-rated Filipino flyweight Joebert Alvarez while winding up his training at Donaire's Gym in Oakland.
