MAIDANA EXPOSES REASONS WHY PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER FIGHT WILL NOT HAPPEN By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Tue, 06 May 2014 Floyd Mayweather ?picked? Marcos Maidana thinking perhaps that the slugger from Argentina would be easy to dispose of. All he needs to do is run like he usually does, roll his shoulders when attacked and poke a few jabs to ?score? points making it easy for any of the ?three blind mice? that occupy spots around the square ring to score a win for him like that ridiculous 117-111 from Burt Clemens. But Marcos Maidana came to fight with or without the gloves he wanted to wear. Unfortunately, he was prevented from using them by the NSAC who in my opinion, is beholden to Floyd Mayweather for the tons of money he brings to Nevada. It?s short of amazing why the Commission folks allowed themselves to be involved with such a controversy when all they had to do was cut open the gloves to see if the padding is within the protective limits acceptable internationally. The gloves custom made for Maidana (blue for Argentina) were said to be the same as any of the red Everlast MX gloves sold anywhere in the country and abroad. What difference does it make if the paddings are horse hair or foam as long as they provide the same protection to the hands of the boxers? I really think that Floyd insisted in making the gloves an issue because of two things: (a) To protect his alleged pretty face and (b) to gain a psychological advantage over Maidana. And, it worked. But what is more intriguing is what took Maidana to accept the gloves that supposedly were not even the ones approved by the Commission. As trainer Robert Garcia stated - he had to use plenty of Vaseline to put them on. Hey, your guess is good as mine but I am thinking it could be in the middle six-figures. Remember how much JuanMa Marquez got to accept Floyd?s weight? Admittedly, Maidana did not do enough to defeat Floyd. A knockdown would have sealed the fate of the braggart from Grand Rapids, MI. But it did not happen. But that is not to say that Floyd woke up Sunday morning feeling like he just came off a vacation. I am sure he was aching from all those hammer-like shots thrown by Maidana. Floyd?s performance last Saturday made his claim as the ?best P4P? shattered forever. He did not dominate the young Maidana. In fact, he won but not in the fashion indicated by the ridiculous score of Clemens. At best it could have been a 115-113. Yes it was that close of a fight. Floyd got old in that fight. The legs are no longer as shifty and he was not as fast as he used to be. But his dirty tactics remained glaringly intact - particularly the used of his elbows. Just check out the photo above and see what I meant. In the end, Maidana exposed the primary reason why Floyd will never fight Manny Pacquiao. Floyd has difficulty when crowded by an opponent who shoots from all angles. Pacquiao does that far better than Maidana thereby increasing the probability that Floyd will lose. In addition Pacquiao hits harder and has faster hands and feet than Maidana. So therefore, the fight that everybody wants to see (except the Money Team) will never happen. Realistically, Floyd has no good reason to fight Pacquiao particularly now that the myth about his being invincible has been exposed as a fake. He can always cherry pick guys like Guerrero who did not have enough skills to endanger him and Canelo who is too big and too slow to even touch Floyd and still make the insane millions ShowTime is paying him.
