Diego Magdaleno demolishes Ernie Sanchez's replacement in 4
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 16 Feb 2014
Former title contender Diego Magdaleno (25-1, 10 KOs) decimated late-replacement, Jorge Pazos (14-7-1, 8 KOs) in their main event fight at the C. Robert Lee Center in Hawaiian Gardens California.
Magdaleno sent Pazos to the canvas twice, once in the 3rd round as a result of a head shot and then in the 4th via a wicked body shot. Pazos, from Sinaloa, Mexico, was unable to recover from the last knock down and was counted out by referee Jack Reiss.
Pazos was supposed to provide Magdaleno better competition over original opponent, Ernie Sanchez (14-5, 5 KOs) of the Philippines. Sanchez was yanked as Magdaleno?s opponent this week after Manny Pacquiao?s adviser, Michael Koncz and Top Rank?s Bob Arum deemed that Sanchez is of no match against Magdaleno.
Sanchez?s manager claims that the real reason for the cancellation was that Koncz is claiming managerial and monetary rights over Sanchez. He even questioned Pazos? record which is worse than that of Sanchez.
This is Pazos? 7th loss, his third by knockout. In comparison to Sanchez?s 5 defeats which all came by decision and was never knocked out in his career.
This is Magdaleno?s 2nd straight win after his solitary loss last year, a Split Decision defeat to Roman Martinez in Macao, China for then Martinez?s WBO super featherweight belt.
Magdaleno dominated the fight after a tentative start, punishing Pazos to the body and the head afterwards. Pazos, who was clearly overmatched, was the recipient of multiple blows to the torso and the head by Magdaleno.
The stoppage came at the 2:27 mark of the 4th.
