Marco Demecillo takes on 'Tornado' Sanchez for WBA Int'l title Jan 18 in Mexico By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Tue, 14 Jan 2014 CEBU -- Crowd-pleasing Filipino slugger Marco Demecillo left for Mexico yesterday together with trainer Brix Flores to take on rising Mexican knockout artist David 'Tornado' Sanchez for the vacant WBA International super flyweight title this Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at Sanchez's backyard at Gimnasio del Estado in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. Demecillo is a last minute substitute for Breilor Teran of Venezuela, the WBA #14 rated contender and Sanchez's original opponent. Demecillo's manager, Rex 'Wakee' Salud, said they got the offer from Sanchez's camp a few days ago and accepted it. "Marco has been sparring in Japan before he returned to Cebu three weeks ago. I think he's ready for this fight," Salud told Philboxing. Both Demecillo (19-1-1, 14KO) and Sanchez (23-2-2, 14KO) have very high knockout percentages so this weekend's duel which is promoted by Zanfer Promotions, is expected to produce fireworks from both fighters. Demecillo won by UD over erstwhile undefeated Giovanni Escaner in his last outing in Dipolog City last August, coming back from a heart breaking loss, the first in his career, against Arthur Villanueva in Davao City in April last year. Sanchez meanwhile racked up a string of impressive victories recently while remaining undefeated since 2011. Sanchez knocked out Jean Piero Perez in the first round last November, the same Perez who gave Milan Melindo all he could handle for 12 rounds last September in Cebu before losing by majority decision. Sanchez also registered a majority decision win over Demecillo's stablemate Marlon Tapales on Feb. 23 last year in the same venue where Sanchez will face Demecillo over the weekend.
