CEBU CITY DOMINATES BATANG PINOY VISAYAS BOXING TOURNAMENT By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Sun, 29 Sep 2013 Cebu City exerted is superiority in boxing when it harvested six golds, two silvers and two bronzes at the end of the Batang Pinoy Visayas Qualifying Leg boxing tournament in Maasin City. Held before a huge crowd at the city bus terminal beside Metro Hi-Per Maasin, the Cebuano boxers prevailed over Mandaue City who placed second with two golds, two silvers and one bronze medal. The Cebu City boxers who struck gold were Jefre Jiminez, Marvin Pumar, Richard Rama, Ket Ceron Garces, John Lloyd Transporte, and Mark Anthony Rotilles. Jiminez prevailed over Louie Jay Forzado of Maasin City by unanimous decision in the 28kg. Kiddie weight division. Pumar also won unanimously over Joshua Orello of Maasin City in the 40kg. Mosquito weight division. Rama defeated Ronel Corales of Consolacion by UD in the 46kg. light paper weight category. Garces dominated Tagbilaran's Dan Rick Sumabong by UD in the 48kg. Pinweight division. Transporte outclassed Specer Carl Cortes of Mandaue by UD in the 50kg. Light flyweight division. Rotilles automatically got the gold medal when there are no other entries in the 54kg. Light bantamweight category. John Ni?o Vega and Ariel Sibay won their finals assignment for Mandaue. Vega exacted revenge on Cebu City by outscoring John Paul Gabonelas of Cebu in the 30kg. Vacuum weight division. Sibay was victorious over Clent Gersale of Consolacion by UD in the 44kg. Paperweight level. Bacolod City was third winning two golds and two bronzes. Their winning boxers were Joseph Novero Jr. who stopped Ramil Pingol of Leyte Sports Academy by second round TKO in the 32kg. ant weight and Rosen Peruelo who triumphed over Deither Caseda also of LSA by UD in the 38 kg. light mosquito weight. Host Maasin placed fourth with one gold, two silvers and three bronzes. The gold was won by Romie Evale who edged Hergie Gemeda of Cebu by split decision in the 42kg. Light pin weight category. Fifth was Tagbilaran City with one gold, one silver and one bronze. The gold was courtesy of Lloyd James Antoque winning over Seos Vicente of Mandaue by split decision in the 36kg. Powder weight category. Sixth was Southern Leyte with one gold and six bronzes, the gold was won by Shen Kaduyong over Lester Karl Oledan of LSA by UD in the 34kg. Minimum weight category. Other teams who obtained medals were LSA with 3 silvers and four bronzes, Consolacion with 2 silvers and 2 bronzes, and Baybay City and Ormoc City with one bronze each.
