NBA -- Spurs close out Warriors 94 - 82 in Game 6 By Ryan Medida PhilBoxing.com Sat, 18 May 2013 ![]() OAKLAND ? After a very slow start, the San Antonio Spurs sealed the Golden State Warriors' fate by winning Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinal, 94-82, Thursday night at the Oracle Arena. Tony Parker overcame a poor start and scored 10 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter, and the Spurs held off a furious rally to eliminate the Warriors and advance to the Western Conference finals with a 4-2 series win. Tim Duncan added 19 points and six rebounds while Kawhi Leonard had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Stephen Curry, playing through a left ankle injury, led the Warriors with 22 points and shot 10 of 25 from the field. Jarrett Jack had 15 points. "It is hard to mellow out that quick. We still in game mode and we fought to the finish against the great Spurs team. We knew it would be tough task coming in into the series and the plays that they made down the stretch, the big three's they hit, they deserve to win obviously, we congratulate them," Stephen Curry said. Klay Thompson added 10 points in 4 of 10 shooting. The Spurs out played the Warriors in almost all category in last nights game, Spurs out shot the Warriors 45.2 to 38.8 percent. Few would have blamed the Warriors at this point if they had gone out with a whimper. Curry, Bogut and Lee ? 3 of their 4 best players ? played with major injuries. The team?s most reliable offensive weapon over the prior 2 games, Harrison Barnes, suffered what initially looked like a major injury when he crashed face-first into the court after being up-ended. His return in the second half after clearing medical checks and getting six stitches was indicative of just how hard it was to put this team away. Gregg Popovich and the Spurs systematically stripped the Warriors of one offensive weapon after another. There were times were it looked like the entire Warriors? offense might fall apart in a crash of turnovers and bad shots. The Warriors couldn?t complete an interior pass much of the game ? let alone swing the ball cross-court to find an open shooter as they did so beautifully throughout the season. But somehow, despite it all, the Warriors found themselves down by only a three-point shot with 2:19 remaining. No one snickers anymore when Mark Jackson talks about being a ?no excuses? basketball team. As for the Spurs, they move on to a Western Conference Finals against the Grizzlies that should be a fascinating, if perhaps aesthetically displeasing, matchup. In some respects, the Grizzlies are the opposite of the Warriors on offense, a slow-paced half court team with few outside threats but two multi-talented big men. It's the kind of series that hardcore fans and assistant coaches the world over will love. It may also be the last stand of the Big Three.
