Shape Up Boxing: Pumicpic stakes WBC Youth Silver title vs Indon By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Sun, 21 Apr 2013 MANILA (PNA) -- Two young Filipino fighters see action against separate Indonesian opponents tonight when Richard Pumicpic stakes his World Boxing Council youth silver bantamweight belt against Junior Bajawa and Bernabe Concepcion tries to recapture old glory against Boido ?Bulldozer? Simanjuntak headlining the 76-round card presented by Shape Up Boxing Promotions at the Muntinlupa Sports complex in Barangay Tunasan, Muntinlupa City April 21. A win by the 23-year-old Pumicpic in his 10-round duel with the dangerous Bajawa, the Indonesian champion, could mean a crack at the legitimate 118-pound crown as promised by his manager Anson Tiu Co, owner of the Baguio City?s Cppyeesan Hotel and head of the Shape Up Promotions. A successful outing by the 24-year-old Bernabe, once the pride of the country in the featherweight division when he occupied the WBC international 126-pound throne, on the other hand, lines him up for a title shot he deserved a few years back but aborted by a spat with his former handlers. ?Richard and Bernabe are two of our young fighters seeking recognition in the international boxing arena and we believe they both have what it is to succeed where our own Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire Jr. and Brian Viloria enjoyed,? Tiu said on the eve of the fights. ?Sabihin nating si Richard ay papunta pa lang doon, but halos abot-kamay na ang world crown kaya tutulungqan natin syuang marating yun,? Co said. ?Si Bernabe naman, nandoon na ang was already making a name for himself and country, pero nagkaroon ng problema. With the help of our friends, he can do it again. After all, 24 pa lamang naman siya.? By friends, Co meant Muntinlupa Mayor Alvin San Pedro, the A.S. Almario Promotions, Tobi Sports, Cherry Lume (Ang Yerong May Aluminum), Omico Corp and GMA News, which, are also behind tonight?s promotions. Pumicpic fighting out of Zamboanga who won the title February last year in Bangkok, weighed exactly at 118 pounds to Bajawa?s 117 pounds during yesterday?s official weight-in held at the Century Seafoods Restaurant atr the ground floor of the Sheraton Hotel. Concepcion, a Bicolano who now calls Pasay City his home, tipped the scale at 124 pounds to Simanjuntak?s 122 pounds. Also in the card are three more 10-round supporting events featuring up-and-coming fighters in the likes of bantamweight Daniel Ferreras against Marvin Tampus, and flyweights Bobby Concepcion against Gilbert Gurdario and Jeffrey Cerna against Rogen Flores. Featherweights Bebong Manalo and Warren Manbuanag take each other in the lone eight-rounder. A pair of six-rounders pit Nino Valenzuela against Lester Abulan and Jmel Mungkal; against JR Florendo, both in the minimumwight scraps. Jonjon Estrada faces Mark Postrano in a four-round bantamweight clash, while light-flyweights JC Francisco and Juanito Hundante battles in another four-round curtain raiser.
