Keith Thurman beats Jan Zaveck in Brooklyn
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 10 Mar 2013

Brooklyn, NY - Undefeated American Keith Thurman (19-0, 18 KO) scored a convincing shutout win over former IBF welterweight titlist, Jan Zaveck (32-2, 18 KO) of Trdobojci, Slovania in tonight's co-main event at The Barclays Center.
The native of Clearwater, Florida dominated his opponent in twelve rounds against a tough and defensively sound Zaveck. Thurman rained punches on Zaveck who had most of them blocked because of the Slovenian's excellent defense. Thurman was able to connect only 27 percent of his shots (217 of 817) because Zaveck blocked most of his punches with his elbows and arms which were raised all night.
Zaveck has some moments during the fight but was never a danger to his opponent all throughout the fight. He only threw half of Thurman's output, casting 397 punches, with only 110 of it landing on his opponent. His attempt at being aggressive was controlled by Thurman who utilized clean jabbing and ring movement.
Thurman, who won his last eight fights under six rounds and via stoppages, failed to do that against Zaveck who fought hard until the final bell. The scores were 120-108, all for Thurman who besides winning this WBO welterweight eliminator, also grabbed Zaveck's WBO Intercontinental belt in the process.
