NBA -- Bulls' double-trouble thwart Sixers By Maria Macatangay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 03 Dec 2012 CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls' rollercoaster season rolled along Saturday night at the United Center. And thanks to center Joakim Noah and small forward Luol Deng, this ride ended in a 93-88 victory over the hard-charging Philadelphia 76ers. Noah tallied 12 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and issued seven assists while Deng showed similar efficiency to finish with 25 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. "His (Deng) shots were big, timely and clutch. And Jo was terrific," Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said of his two bigs. After a slow start that allowed the Sixers to seize an early 13-6 advantage, the Bulls went to work and regained the advantage after one quarter of play, 22-19. And when the Sixers kept things even at 41-41 at halftime, Chicago went on 26-23 run to take a slim 67-64 entering the fourth and final quarter. Ahead comfortably -- 89-83 -- with only 23.7 seconds to play, Chicago went through a little bit of a scare when Philadelphia inched to within 90-88 with still 16.6 ticks to go. But the Bulls put an end to the uprising when Richard Hamilton sank three of four three throws in the endgame. Hamilton, who sustained a sprained left foot, finished with 15 points. Carlos Boozer had 12 points and 12 rebounds, but he was a disappointing 5-for-14 from the field and did not play in the final stanza. Taj Gibson, who relieved Boozer, chalked 11 points and eight rebounds while injecting passion and intensity to the Bulls defense. Jrue Holiday paced the Sixers with 23 points and seven assists while Thaddeus Young pumped 22 points on 10-for-16 shooting. Evan Turner and LaVoy Allen chipped in a combined 20 points, but without their 7-foot-, 285-pound center Andrew Bynum, the Sixers were badly outrebounded, 50-37. With the win, the Bulls stayed stride for stride with the 8-7 Milwaukee Bucks for the No.1 spot in the Central Division. Philadelphia, which fell to 10-7, are currently third in the New York Knicks-led Atlantic Division. (MCM) Click here to view a list of other articles written by Maria Macatangay. ![]() |
