NBA -- Bulls have hands full against bullish Sixers By Maria Macatangay PhilBoxing.com Sun, 02 Dec 2012 CHICAGO ---- Fresh from their 101-78 thrashing of the Dallas Mavericks last Wednesday night, the Chicago Bulls host the third game of their four-game home stand Saturday night at the United Center along Madison street here in the Windy City. The Bulls will have plenty on their plate against the visting Philadelphia 76ers, who hit town with a three-game win streak. Coached by former Bulls head coach Doug Collins, the Sixers hold a 10-6 record, just 1.5 games behind the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets who both share the top spot in the Atlantic Division with identical 11-4 slates. At 7-7, the Bulls are tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for the best record in the Central Division, where the powerhouse Indiana Pacers are a disappointing 8-8. The Pacers are, however, without the services of top scorer Danny Granger. The 5-12 Detroit Pistons and 4-12 Cleveland Cavaliers are sliding deeper down the bottom of the division and further away from playoffs contention. Luol Deng leads the Bulls in scoring with 17.6 points per outing while vetarans Rip Hamilton and Carlos Boozer chip in 13.8 points apiece. The Bulls will need a lot of offense against an equally-stingy Sixers defense that allows only 93.7 points a contest. Philadelphia allows the opposition to shoot just 42.5 percent trom the field. Jrue Holiday is the engine that drives the Sixers offense. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound point guard averages 18.2 points.and 9.4 assists a game. Holiday also nets 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals. Other Sixers notables include Evan Turner and Thaddeus Young, who average 14.3 and 14.1 points, respectively. Even without center Andrew Bynum, who is out indefinitely with two achy knees, Philadelphia has enough length and muscle in 7-foot-1 Spencer Hawes, 6-foot-11 Kwame Brown and 6-foot-9 Dorell Wright. After tackling the Sixers, the Bulls host the Pacers on Tuesday night before going on a short Midwest trip to Cleveland and Detroit on Wednesday and Friday. The Bulls then return to the United Center next Satruday for a date with the New York Knicks. (Maria Macatangay) Click here to view a list of other articles written by Maria Macatangay. |
