NBA -- Knicks end skid, beat up Pistons
By Roel Iway PhilBoxing.com Mon, 26 Nov 2012
NEW YORK -- After a two-game losing streak including a humiliating 37-point loss to the Houston Rockets the night after Thanksgiving, the New York Knicks went back home and made short work of the Detroit Pistons -- 121-100 -- Sunday afternoon at the Madison Square Garden.
After jumping to a 32-22 first quarter start, the Knicks raced to a 64-44 haltime advantage. The 3-11 Pistons, who languish in the bottom of the Central Division, showed some fight in the third quarter. But the Knicks put the issue to rest with a spurt that put New York ahead 112-89 with just 4:31 left to play.
Carmelo Anthony followed his 37-point effort in Houston with 29 points against the Pistons. Melo nailed 10 of 18 field goals, four of five 3s and all five of his free throws. The Knicks captain also grabbed a couple rebounds and issued three assists.
Steve Novak added 18 markers for the Knicks, who also got 15 points each from Rasheed Wallace and J.R. Smith.
At 9-3, the Knicks are a close second behind the 10-3 Miami Heat for the best record in the Eastern Conference. The 9-2 Memphis Grizzlies hold the best record overall.
Sophomore guard Brandon Knight tallied 21 points and five assists for the vanquished Pistons. Kyle Singler need only seven field goals to notch 16 points for Detroit while Greg Monroe chipped in 12. (Roel Iway)
