Mario Barrios Outpoints Fabian Maidana

T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas - In the co-main event of the Canelo vs Munguia undisputed super middleweight title with the WBC welterweight interim title at stake, defending champion Mario Barrios (29-2, 18KOs) of Texas boxed his way to a unanimous decision victory over Fabian Maidana of Argentina (22-3, 16 KOs).
After a tactical round 1 and 2, Barrios scored a knockdown in 3rd round. The knockdown seemed to have awoken Maidana up who showed more offense in the subsequent rounds. Maidana had a good jab and caused swelling to Barrios right eye to the point where the right eye was swollen at the end of the fight. However, Maidana just didn't do enough throughout the course of 12 rounds to earn victory. After 12 rounds all three Judges scored the fight 116-111.
