MARTIROSYAN VS. LARA WILL SURELY BE A HUMDINGER By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 11 Nov 2012 Wynn Casino Resort, Las Vegas:- Judging from the animosity displayed between Vanes Martirosyan and his Cuban foe, Erislandy Lara at the weigh-in yesterday afternoon, tonight?s main event at the ballroom of this fancy hotel will be nothing but fireworks. It could be a July 4th and New Year?s eve combined. Soon after they stepped off the scales and posed for the media, the two main event gladiators started jawing at each other. Martirosyan seem to be very animated and put his face very close to Lara. Lara at first was just acting cool but then the adrenalin perhaps took over and he push-off Martirosyan. It was not just a simple push as if to say ?get off my face?. It was a strong push that moved Martirosyan back about three feet. Timely intervention from the officials finally separated the two to meet again tonight for the real thing and with all the marbles at stake. The animosity did not stop between the two fighters. Even their Team and followers were jawing too. The media people have observed Alex Ariza who was standing next to Martirosyan exchanging tough words with the Cuban Team members and fans seated on the front seat left side of the media photographers. Too bad we could not catch it all as it was in Spanish. But judging from their body language, they were words you would not like your kids to hear. Then the main supporters who carried their country?s flag and spoke their own languages got involved too giving credence to the reasoning on the security people that it?s always wise to put them on two opposite sides of the room. But inspite of the distance a couple managed to get face to face and if it were not for the quick work of the Wynn security people, who knows what would have happened.? With all that hot action at the weigh-in, those who have been in boxing for years, the media hard knocks particularly, are expecting that indeed that indeed tonight we will see fireworks. ?Everything that we have seen and heard has the makings of a huge fight,? one pundit said as we walked away from the weigh-in. I for one could not agree more. I know it will be a great fight night. Come to think of it it?s not even a title fight! It?s just an ?eliminator?. But I guess Martirosyan and Lara waited long enough to get to this point so they can?t wait to get it on. The only bummer for the afternoon was a young and very good fighter, Jesse Magdaleno of Las Vegas did not make weigh the first try, disappointing many people who were there who expected more from the young undefeated fighter. Perhaps the kid has grown and its time to move him up one division. Its useless asking him to make weigh when his body is saying something else.
