TEAM PACQUIAO REASSURES FANS

PhilBoxing.com

MANILA (PNA) - Pressing matters in his duties and responsibilities as a lawmaker delayed eight division champion Manny Pacquiao's departure for the United States where he will be pitching camp in preparation for his coming fourth fight with Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez.

Assistant trainer and boyhood friend Buboy Fernandez assured though that the 'Fighter of the Decade' has been continuously training contrary to some reports that he has neglected his preparation because of politics.

Pacquiao was scheduled flight to Los Angeles to start his extensive training at the Freddie Roach-owned Wild Card Gym Monday, has been postponed to Tuesday, according to Fernandez.

He and members of his training staff, made up of assistant Buboy and younger brother Haplas will be flying to Manila Monday from General Santos City, and hold a brief training session at the MP Tower Gym before resting for their Tuesday flight to California, said the People's Journal source.
Buboy assured though that the fighting Sarangani Congressman has not been remiss in his training that is focused on stamina-building since they started the GenSan camp nearly three weeks ago.

"Tuloy naman ang training ni Manny. Road work sa umaga at gym sa hapon. Araw-araw yan," Buboy assured. "May nakikita na kaming improvement, lalo na sa stamina." (Manny has continued to train. Roadwork in the morning and gym work in the afternoon. I have seen an improvement, especially in stamina.)

"Nearly two weeks na rin kami sa gym, doing the mitts, punching the heavy bag, the speed ball and double end ball para ma-improve din and power and speed na medyo kinalawang na sa haba ng pahinga mula noong last fight nya (against Timothy Bradley) ,"he added.

"The report that Manny and his team are leaving October 27 yet is not true," the source attested. "Medyo late na nga yun para magsimula ang training. Ang sabi sa amin, aalis kami dito (General Santos) sa Lunes bago lumipad pa-U.S. sa Martes.
"That report blaming politics for the delay is unfair. People must remember that Manny is a congressman who has duties and responsibilities to his constituents which he should address first before plunging himself into deep training that will require him to be out of the country for at least eight weeks," he stressed.

"Malayo pa ang eleksyon, next year pa, so papaano mapagbinintangan na namumulitika sya," Buboy reasoned out. "Heto na naman tayo. Pag malapit nang lumaban si Manny, pinipilit sirain. Kelan kaya mawawala sa atin ang crab-mentality nating mga Pilipino? (The election is far off. So, why is he being accused of focusing on politics. Here we go again, when Manny?s fight nears, they say bad things about him. I wonder if we will ever get rid of our crab mentality?)

"The reason, precisely, why Manny decided to finish first his responsibilities to his people is so that he can focus himself in his preparations once everything is cleaned up," Fernandez said. "Hindi nagpapabaya sa Manny sa preparasyon, that I can assure boxing fans, especially our kababayans."
(Manny is not neglecting his preparation for this fight, that I can assure boxing fans, especially our countrymen.)

Earlier this week, Roach declared he and his Wild Card sweat shop has been ready, waiting for Pacquiao's arrival so he and his ward of 11 years can start the prepared renewed training system aimed at scoring a knockout victory over his long-time nemesis. Roach even ordered the Vine Street gym at the heart of Hollywood to be closed starting Monday, the day Pacquiao is originally scheduled to arrive, to assure that there will be no distractions in their preparations.
