CASAMAYOR TURNED A GENERIC PRESSCON INTO AN EXCITING ONE By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Fri, 11 Nov 2011 Bradley (L) and Casamayor. Las Vegas, NV:- If you follow Twitter, you should have seen all the tweets (@mouthgrds4Champ) I sent live from the Top Rank presscon that just concluded straight from the Studio A and B at the MGM Grand. The event which was hosted by the grand old man of Top Rank, Bob Arum, started just like the many that I have seen before. One by one, Arum introduced the fighters who are involved in the undercard of the much-awaited Pacquiao-Marquez III slated on Saturday, November 12th. Mercito Gesta (L) and Vince Parra. But before that, he also introduced his newly acquired Filipino boxer who will be involved in the co-main event on a fight card scheduled tomorrow at the Victory ballroom of the Mandalay Bay Resort Casino on Friday, November 11th. He is Mercito Gesta and he will be trading leathers with Ricardo Dominguez of Culiacan, Mexico Then Arum introduced Diego Magdaleno and his brother Jesse. Diego will be fighting Emmanuel Lucero over 10 rounds for the NABF Superfeatherweight belt, while his younger brother Jesse will tangle with Gil Garcia of Houston, Texas in a 6 round bantamweight fight in the same fight card. The Magdaleno brothers. Then Arum switched to the introduction of the Pacquiao-Marquez undercard fighters. He introduced Jessie Benavides, the undefeated super lightweight from Phoenix who will attempt to win his 14th fight against Sammy Santana of Carolina, Puerto Rico. Luis Cruz of Puerto Rico who will meet Juan Carlos Burgos of Tijuana, Mexico was also introduced. They will fight for the WBC Silver and WBO Latino Junior Lightweight titles. Breidis Prescott of Barangquilla, Columbia who is best remembered as the guy that KO?s Amir Khan in 1 round was presented as well so is his opponent Mike Alvarado, the undefeated junior welterweight from Denver, Colorado. Prescott and Alvarado will fight for the right to hold the IBF Latino Junior Welterweight crown. Arum (L) and Valcarcel. Paco Varcarcel of the WBO spoke next and he presented Bob Arum a plaque recognizing the accomplishments and contributions of Arum to boxing. In is response to Varcarcel?s presentation, Arum jokingly stated that he ?likes people reading about me, as long as its not my obituary?. That of course drew a few scattered laughs. Then the main events fighters were introduced. First up the podium was Joel Casamayor, the Cuban defector who is now based in Florida. Casamayor was cordial but emphatic in his belief that he will take away the WBO Junior welterweight belt of Tim Bradley. When Bradley got his turn on the podium, he spoke at length about the fight and what he thinks would be the outcome. Casamayor, probably thinking that Bradley as spoken enough broke protocol by shouting at Bradley to shut up and sit down. Of course Bradley did not take that kindly and he returned the favor to Casamayor. The back and forth ?shut up and sit down? yelling incident continued for a while until cooler heads intervene. ?On that note, it?s a wrap up here for the undercards presser?, so Arum stated and the event was over. After a brief moment of cool down, the two boxers were persuaded by their trainers and the photographers to pose for photos. But that did not prevent the jawing that continued even as they posed.
