ALL SET FOR THE BIG FIGHT By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 06 Nov 2011 The "i?s are dotted and the t?s crossed" is what they say when things are all in order. In the case of Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez, even their physique had been meticulously sculpted for the big event on November 12th. Manny Pacquiao broke camp Saturday and everyone that mattered in so far as opinions or observations are concerned are all in agreement - Manny Pacquiao is prime, loaded and ready to explode next Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Juan Manuel Marquez, complete with a new physique to catch up with Pacquiao is ready as well. So now, everyone on to Las Vegas! Juan Manuel Marquez is set to make his ?Grand Arrival? at the MGM Grand on Monday (Nov. 7th) at 11:30 AM. This event is open to the public. The ceremonies will happen at the Front Desk area of the MGM right next to the traditional boxing ring that is set up at the center of the main lobby complete with the Golden Lion, the symbol of the MGM. Manny Pacquiao is set to do the same on Tuesday (Nov. 8th) morning at the very same area, a day after he leads a caravan of cars containing the Team, friends and of course, the traditional hangers-on. There would be a few media men with the group led by the big four from the Philippines who I simply refer to a Nick, Abac, Gerry and Francis. These guys are quiet yet they wield a mighty pen. For that they are respected. In fact a couple even gets to jet around with Pacquiao. The following day, Wednesday (Nov. 9th) Top Rank will be hosting the main event final press conference complete with the always anticipated sumptuous lunch they so generously host for the horde of media people that come to events such as this. The public will not be invited to this traditional event. Manny Pacquiao will meet his challenger Marquez for the last time before they head to their fateful confrontation the following day. There will be the few exchanges of words from both camps and of course, the spins from the promoter, Bob Arum, the people that sponsored the event and naturally, HBO. Thursday (Nov 10th), the boys on the undercard, Juan Burgos, Timothy Bradley, Joel Casamayor, Mike Alvarado, Bredis Prescott, and Luis Cruz will get a chance to speak before the media at a press conference just before noon at the MGM Grand Studios A and B. This event is close to the public as well. Friday, November 11th will be a big day. All the fighters involved in the Pacquiao-Marquez III promotions will hit the scales. The event will be at the walled-off Grand Garden Arena and it is open to the public. ?Weigh-in?, as these events are dubbed are always exciting and are not to be missed. The doors open at 1:00 PM giving the public time to locate a seat and savor the ambiance. Since it's ?Philippines vs. Mexico? it will not be a surprise to witness a ?cheering contest? between the Filipinos and the Mexicans. ?Manny, Manny, Manny? will surely ring off from the Filipino groups with the Mexicans responding with ?Si se puede, Si se puede,? referring to Marquez? chances of upsetting the Filipino great. Suffice it to say, there will be plenty of flag waving and bragging as well. Then later in the afternoon, the media will be shown the Final episode of ?24/7 Pacquiao- Marquez? at the Studios A and B of the MGM Grand. Again, this event is closed to the public. In the evening, the focus shifts to the Mandalay Bay Hotel. Top Rank will present the appetizer. They will sponsor ?Top Rank Live? a boxing event headlined by the Diego Magdaleno vs. Emmanuel Lucero and the Mercito Gesta vs. Ricardo Domingo. A young Filipino upstart, Juan Miguel Elorde will be featured in the fight card as well. Elorde is the grand son of the great Filipino boxer, Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde, the longest reigning Filipino World Champion. Then the following day, Saturday, November 12th, the big event happens. The doors of the MGM Grand will be opened at 3:00 PM and the first fight happens at 3:15 PM. Live free view telecast will start occur from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Then at 6::00 PM the HBO Pay Per View event takes over all the way to the main event. Post fight press conference (closed to the public) will begin at the Studios A and B immediately after the fight.
