DODIE BOY JR RISES FROM A KNOCKDOWN TO REGISTER 7TH KO WIN (PHOTOS) PhilBoxing.com Sun, 02 Oct 2011 Boxing pundits have often wondered how Dodie Boy Pe?alosa, Jr will react to being knocked down. That question was answered in the very first round. Donriel Marcos unleashed a wild right that sent Pe?alosa crashing on the seat of his trunks. Pe?alosa got up and looked stunned. He looked towards his corner for instructions as father and trainer Dodie,Sr. yelled for him to take time to clear his head. He walked to the neutral corner as the referee signalled the protagonists to continue fighting. Pe?alosa fired back as the round ended and kept his hands high in the second round. He pummelled Marcos on the ropes with heavy body shots. Pe?alosa got decked by a low blow which added to drama. Pe?alosa pressed but also made it a point to look towards his corner and listen for instructions. In another strange twist referee Tony Pesons slipped and hit the canvas at the end of the round. Marcos faded in the third as Pe?alosa continued to fire body and head shots. As Marcos was pinned on the ropes, his cornerman tried to signal the referee that they already had enough and eventually entered the ring to save his boxer from further punishment. Pe?alosa was declared winner by TKO at 2:54 of the 3rd. He has scored his seventh straight abbreviated win and learned a few valuable lessons. Marcos told Philboxing after the bout that he just saw an opening and took it. Michael Farenas (R) and Edgar Gabejan. Farenas wins. Michael Fare?as won the Philippine featherweight title (GAB version) in a rough and tumble twelve round match against Edgar Gabejan. Fare?as had difficulty with the roughhousing tactics of Gabejan early in the bout. The southpaw Fare?as? left straight found it?s range in the fourth but Gabejan continued to charge and landed wicked body shots. The boxers got into each other?s nerves and resorted to holding, pushing and other extra-curricular activities. Fare?as got cut on the left eyebrow in the 7th and Gabejan got deducted a couple of points for pushing and a throw down maneuver. Fare?as was also deducted a point in the 8th for excessive holding. They continued to exchange punches but Gabejan faded in the endgame as Fare?as scored with uppercuts in the 11th and had the clearer blows in the last round. The scores were unanimous for Fare?as ? 115-109, 115-109 and 116-108. Eden Sonsona (L) connects to the head of Godwin Tubigon. Eden Sonsona won by TKO in the seventh round over Godwin Tubigon Dave Pe?alosa officially joined his brother in the pro ranks by winning his debut by unanimous decision against John Edu Torbiso. All three judges scored it 39-36. Dave Penalosa (R) throws a right against John Edu Torbiso. Dave Penalosa, the debuting son of Dodie Boy Penalosa Sr and brother of Dodie Boy Jr, coasted to 4-round unanimous decision victory against John Edu Torbiso. The three judges submitted identical scores of 39-36 for Penalosa. Rodel Wenceslao won by unanimous decision over Soony Katiangdagho in a well fought superfeatherweight fight. The scores - 58-56 for all three judges. Virgilio Silvano won by majority decision over Lionel Legada. The scorecards read ? 75-75 and two judges had it 77-73 for Silvano. Jimmy Paypa won by unanimous decision over Anthony Sabalde. The scores ? 77-74, 77-74 and 78-73. Raymond Empic survived a knockdown in round two and wore down Sherwin Caday with body shots until an unimpeded right knocked Caday out cold in the third. Caday was resuscitated by medical personnel at ringside and was brought to the hospital for further tests and treatment. He was fully conscious past midnight Sunday. Jhaleel Payao knocked out Jaime Bermiso in 44 seconds of round three courtesy of a hard liver shot. Jerome Casas won by unanimous decision over Romel Acruz in the evening?s opening bout. The scores ? 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37. ?DUGONG KAMPEON? was held at the Hoops Dome in Lapulapu City Saturday and will be shown on GMA TV on a delayed basis.
