WILL MIRANDA?S HAVING TO LOSE WEIGHT TELL IN HIS FIGHT VS VILORIA?

PhilBoxing.com

Former two time world light flyweight champion Brian Viloria hopes to capitalize on the fact that WBO flyweight champion Julio Cesar ?Pingo? Miranda had to shed off two pounds in some three hours to make the 112 pound limit on his second official try.

Miranda looked gaunt and emaciated after the weigh-in while Viloria made the weight easily on his first try coming in at 111.6 pounds.

Reports from the Queen Kapiolani Hotel said Miranda ?sucked every ounce out of his body to make the 112 pound limit? and even Viloria said he looked tired.

Viloria told us he would take advantage of Miranda?s plight by working to the body in the fight where Viloria is chasing a third world title.

While Viloria rested after weighing in and had a lunch of chicken Miranda was agonizing to shed off the excess poundage otherwise he would have lost his title on the scales.

Viloria himself had in the past suffered to make the 108 pound light flyweight limit and knew exactly how Miranda felt saying "I know what he's going through, but at the same time, I can't feel sorry for him.?

Viloria said ?I did what I had to do and I'm feeling good right now."

At the power weights having to lose two pounds could clearly hurt a fighter and it may tell on an aggressive fighter like Miranda who likes to come forward throwing punches from all directions.

Viloria could resort to biding his time, counter-punching and working to the body, piling up points and hoping to take out a weakened Miranda in the later rounds.

But the Mexican champion is a hard puncher and Viloria will have to stay out of trouble and not elect to trade punches with the champion.

Two talented Filipinos will be also featured on the undercard of ?Island Assault 2? at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu which will be telecast by ABC 5 in Manila beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Former two division world champion Gerry Penalosa?s prot?g?, super featherweight Michael Farenas (31-3-3, 26 KO?s) will battle Mexico?s Fernando Beltran Jr (35-5-1, 19 KO?s) while hard-hitting light flyweight Denver Cuello (26-4-6, 16 KO?s), a fighter of Aljoe Jaro clashes with another Mexican Omar Soto (15-7-1, 6 KO?s).
