POP GOES THE PACMAN! By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 03 Apr 2011 Los Angeles International Airport (LAX):- Well, he did it again! Manny Pacquiao avoided a crowd of fans and media people upon arriving from Manila by going out through an exit not usually used by passengers and disappeared into the night. How can he do that? Pacquiao is now an upper echelon VIP thus he gets escorts through the LAX. That plus the fact that he now holds a diplomatic passport makes it easier for him to get in and out of the LAX almost at any exit chosen for him by the LAX police. Of course the fans that waited for him were visibly upset. ?How can he do that to us," said one young lady who was sporting a Pacquiao t-shirt. One very famous and well connected photographer who flew in from out of town on assignment to cover Pacquiao?s arrival started asking loudly - ?Why in the hell did he do that again?" No one had an answer. Even the Showtime and CBS News folks who were there did not get a footage. But they all took it in stride. ?We are used to such antics,? they said. ?It does not bother us anymore.? Pacquiao?s LA bodyguards were at a loss too. They had no clue why their boss did what he did twice in a row now. Some media people however were offended. ?Why would they make a press release that Pacquiao is coming and not make sure that he shows up for the media,? one said. ?It?s a waste of our time and resources. If Pacquiao does not have an intention to deal with the press, then they should not be making such announcements," he added. An hour after Pacquiao has long been gone, some fans were still hanging out at the arrival area not believing that Pacquiao was gone. Their hopes of course were lifted by seeing Freddie Roach come through the regular exit and a few moments later, conditioning man, Alex Ariza followed a short time later by the rest of the Team that flew in with Pacquiao. But Pacquiao was never seen. He just popped off like a bubble. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ed de la Vega, DDS. |
