SULAIMAN ORDERS INVESTIGATION ON DAPUDONG INJURY By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Tue, 12 Oct 2010 WBC President Jose Sulaiman has ordered an investigation on the injury of Filipino boxer Edrin Dapudong who sustained unusual cuts during his fight with Wilbert Uicab last month in Cancun, Mexico. In a letter to PhilBoxing.com, Sulaiman said that he will forward the result of the investigation to the WBC Convention scheduled Nov. 1 to 6 also in Cancun, Mexico. The WBC president for life however took issue on an article published at PhilBoxing blaming the Mexicans for the injury. "I object respectfully, however, to the terms of the article putting a blame on Mexicans, as this might be insulting and humiliating to people of a country that have had nothing but hospitality, respect and recognition to all boxers from the Philippines who have come to fight in Mexico," Sulaiman said. Edrin Dapudong (20-3-0 11KOs), one of the stalwarts of former North Cotabato governor Manny Pinol's Braveheart stable, won the WBC silver flyweight crown with a 1st round knockout over Mexican Jesus Jimenez in Nayarit, Mexico last June 19 and lost the belt against Wilbert Uicab last Sep. 17 in Cancun on his first defense. Below is Sulaiman's letter in full: Dear Sir : We, at the WBC, have read your article and will immediately proceed to establish an investigation taking the result to the WBC convention to be held in Cancun from November 1st to the 6th. I object respectfully, however, to the terms of the article putting a blame on Mexicans, as this might be insulting and humiliating to people of a country that have had nothing but hospitality, respect and recognition to all boxers from the Philippines who have come to fight in Mexico, as everybody must have witnessed. Those scratches look obviously bad, but reviewing them with care, they look more like finger scratches than blows of any kind, no punch thrown could leave a mark like that, they are scratches, so it would be interesting to see how were they produced. The fight was shown on TV; I personally watched it and I have absolutely no doubt that the fight was won fair and square by the Mexican boxer Uicab, I kindly ask you to please accept my best personal regards.
