NIETES ? 105 LBS, RODRIGUEZ ? 103.2 LBS. (PHOTOS)

GUASAVE, Sinaloa, Mexico ? Amidst a Mexican fiesta atmosphere, Moringa music and sweltering heat, defending WBO minimumweight champion Donnie Nietes of the Philippines and challenger Guasaveno Mario Rodriguez made weight during today's official weighin held in the middle of the busy Corridegidora St. in downtown Guasave for their title fight at the Auditorio Luis Estrada Medina, Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila).

The 21-year-old Rodriguez, cheered by a throng of supporters, stepped in to the weighing scale first and easily made the required weight by coming in at 103.2 lbs. Nietes, 28, veteran of battles inside Mexico, came in next and weighed exactly at 105 lbs., the required limit for minimumweight.

Although the big time fights in Las Vegas and elsewhere are now using advance technology to promote their fights using social networking websites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, the Guasave promoters had been doing it the old-fashioned way by having a couple of vehicles doing the rounds in the town's busy streets announcing Saturday's fight via large megaphones the past few days. And after, the official weighin was done in one of the busiest streets in town complete with a Mexican band playing Moringa music.

With the sweltering heat in Guasave that rises as high as 35 degrees centigrade quite similar to the Philippines, Nietes feels right at home in sharp contrast to Los Angeles where Nietes had to endure cold mornings and evenings for more two weeks before coming here.

The Nietes-Rodriguez world championship fight tomorrow night (Sunday morning in Manila) is expected to commence at around 8:30 p.m. Local time.
