MVP graces Friday?s SCOOP session By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Thu, 15 Apr 2010 with report from Robbie Pangilinan What is designed as the most serious attempt to finally win the country?s first ever Olympic gold medal will be discussed in Friday?s edition of the weekly SCOOP Sa Kamayan session at the Kamayan Restaurant-Padre Faura. No less than the country?s no. 1 sports patron, Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines chair Manny V. Pangilinan, will be present to expound on an ambitious talent identification and development program ABAP has started to attain the Filipinos? long-time dream nearly accomplished by boxers Anthony ?Boy? Villanueva and Mansueto ?Onyok? Velasco who both scooped up a silver medal each in separate editions of the quadrennial Games. Pangilinan, top man of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. and popularly known also as MVP who also heads the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, will be accompanied by ABAP president Ricky Vargas, who will also be discussing an offer made by the International Amateur Boxing Association for him to handle AIBA?s marketing thrust. The SCOOP forum, sponsored by ACCEL, will also be an occasion to introduce members of the Philippine Junior Davis Cup and Federal Cup tennis teams. Doing the honors will be team captain Roland Kraut of the Davis Cup squad and Karl Santamaria of the Federal Cup side. Pangilinan or MVP, the chairman of Smart-PLDT, will discuss about the plans and programs of his PBA team, as well as those of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) where he is also chairman. MVP will likewise talk about the Ateneo de Manila University sports program that he is supporting as chair of the school?s board of trustees. There will be a special performance by ?The Entertainer? and PBA cager Alex Crisano and Mike Swift, a Pinoy rapper raised in Brooklyn, New York. SCOOP president Eddie Alinea is calling on all members to come early as discussion will start promptly at 11 a.m. and will be aired live over Sports Radio.
