Mayol’s new trainer… blessing in disguise? By Anthony 'Duljoman' Andales PhilBoxing.com Fri, 07 Aug 2009  Folly Beach, SC -- As I reviewed Mayol-Calderon I last night, I got the same score as I had the last time, 58-56 Mayol. The aggressive and the stronger fighter was Batang Mandaue. I asked him about that fight and his previous important/championship fights. The answer was very quick, he’s like holding two aces, checking it first and when the other guy goes all-in he quickly calls. Mayol’s quick answer was, Buboy Fernandez. He said Buboy forced him to the limit, Buboy showed better angles, "Buboy knows when I become complacent and most of all Buboy is a very caring trainer. He jogs and walk with me every morning, and he can cook too Mayol added. I think Pacquiao is in good hands with Buboy around," What do you think Manny? But Buboy cannot train Mayol this time, he texted me last night saying that Buboy can’t train him, we’ll just call it a scheduling problem. I talked to Freddie Roach last night, he said he tapped Jessie Arrevalo as Rodel’s chief trainer. Not bad at all, if it is a Roach blood line, it must be a winning blood line also. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise for both Mayol and Jessie. This could be the tandem that can make him a champion of the world. And this could make a big jump for Jessie’s career as a trainer and he could be the most popular foreign trainer second to Freddie of course in the Philippines (how about Nonito Sr.?, he’ll just be the most humble trainer… that’s ok Brod?) if he makes Mayol a champ coming Sept. 12 in Calderon’s backyard San Juan, Puerto Rico. Coming to the Philippines for training is not just the wisest thing to do, as it is barely 5 weeks to go. As for Buboy, he got a more important schedule for the Nov. 14 megafight of the year. And I bet Manny really needs him around. Buboy is the most important man in the entourage but he never does a national anino. As I saw him last Dec. 6 at post fight (which post fight?), Buboy just set himself at the side, (national anino keeps on glancing on the twilight) but keeps his eye on Manny. He is one of the masterminds in this game. He produces Manny Pacquiao. But for Mayol, make the best out of everything. Learn from Jessie and don’t forget what Buboy instilled on you. Maintain as a stalker and be more bully, more bully means you need to have better endurance, in this way, it’ll be sweeter the 4th time around.
