WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT? NIETES TITLE FIGHT POSTPONED AGAIN!

PhilBoxing.com

Los Angeles, CA: - Word just got in from very reliable sources that the 3rd title defense fight of Donnie “Ahas” Nietes against Mexican challenger Manuel Vargas has been postponed again!

The original fight date was originally set for May 16th. However, the H1N1 (swine flu) virus scare that was spreading in Mexico during that month, blew the fight away.

Fernando Beltran, the Mexican promoter who won the purse bid to hold the fight then got to work.

And worked, he did!

Beltran was able to secure a second date. The date was Saturday, July 18th. [The fight was then moved to Aug. 1 - Ed]

But as fate has it, the fight was not meant to be.

We were informed that it will be postponed again and moved to September, but no specific date was mentioned.

While it is understandable that fight schedule dates are almost never set in stone, changing them does not seem to be fair to the fighters involved.

Particularly if done more than once.

But then again, boxing is a business.

The reason to re-schedule the first fight was perfectly acceptable. There was a pandemic going on and exposing people unnecessarily to the virus is not acceptable.

So what is it this time Fernando?

Not enough interest in Mexico?

You could have held the fight in Cebu and for sure, the venue will be full to the brim.

In conversations with some boxing “fans”, someone said that in certain occasions, fights are deliberately rescheduled by people to “throw off the champion”, particularly if he is fighting in the home turf of the challenger. “It makes it easier” for the challenger, he said.

Do they really do that?

Another said that maybe the challenger, who may have business relations with the promoter, is not “quite ready” and the promoter re-schedules the fight to give his fighter more time.

I am sure, it could not be for the above reasons, as Fernando Beltran is a promoter with a good reputation and an excellent sense of value.

In all probability, the real reason the fight is postponed is because of lack of interest from fans. Read:- Slow ticket sales!

Or could it be some “rib injury” on Vargas?

Shades of the first Mayweather-Marquez fight schedule, isn’t it?

In due time, we will find out the true reason why the fight is being re-scheduled again.

In the meantime,

Perhaps Beltran can use his connections and piggy back the fight as an undercard of some Vegas fights on schedule. How about the Mayweather-Marquez fight?

Putting another title fight on the undercard will surely draw more fans to the otherwise slow selling promotions.

In may even draw Filipinos to see the fight live or at the very least, buy PPV who otherwise will not see the Money-man fight Marquez.
