Manila---Veteran age-group campaigner Woman National Master Bonjoure Fille Suyamin of General Trias City, Cavite saved the best for last for Philippine delegation as she erased all her frustrations by winning her coveted gold medal in the international chess arena.

The 14-year-old Suyamin, a grade 8 student of Far Eastern University, copped the gold in a podium finish of the 8th Eastern Asian Youth Rapid Chess Championship 2024 - Girls 16-under individual rapid event on Saturday, July 13 at the Cititel Penang, George Town in Pulau Pinang, Malaysia.

Despite losing to WCM Davaakhuu Unurzul of Mongolia in the sixth and penultimate round, Suyamin bounced back after beating AIM Zoljargal Enkhkhaliun of Mongolia in the seventh and final round to win the title in this FIDE tournament, organized by Penang Chess Association and Malaysian Chess Federation. The governing international body for this event is the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) and World Chess Federation (FIDE).
