GEORGE KAMBOSOS JR. VS. VASILIY LOMACHENKO TALE OF THE TAPE

PhilBoxing.com

Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. will face each other to battle for the vacant IBF world lightweight title at the RAC Arena, Perth, Australia, this Sunday.

Lomachenko is popularly regarded as one of the greatest amateur boxers in history, and has a near-flawless record in winning two Olympic gold medals from Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012.

However, he failed to win Devin Haney’s unified titles last year, on May 20, 2023 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Paradise, Nevada, USA. Lomachenko lost to Haney who rallied to win the final round on all three judges' scorecards 116–112, 115–113 and 115–113, all in favor of the champion Haney who retained his world titles.

Now Lomachenko has a chance to win the now-stripped IBF crown from him. But Kambosos, fighting before his hometown crowd, wants to earn back the title he lost and then failed to reclaim in a pair of defeats against Haney in 2022, having already won the IBO lightweight title from British Maxi Hughes last year.

Kambosos was once the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and The Ring lightweight titles and currently, he is the IBO lightweight world champion.

Lomachenko was a multiple world champion in three weight classes from featherweight to lightweight, including unified and lineal titles at lightweight. He once held the WBA (Super), WBO, WBC and The Ring lightweight titles, WBO junior lightweight title and WBO featherweight title.
