NBA Daily: Warriors Survive Gordon’s 50 to Beat Nuggets in Overtime 137-131

PhilBoxing.com

Tagbilaran City, Bohol – With a little over 21 seconds left in regulation and his team down by 3, Stephen Curry hoisted a trey from way beyond the arc to send the game into overtime. The two-time league MVP then made another one to open the extra inning. He finished with 42 markers, including six from downtown, to lead the Golden State Warriors in eking out a hard-fought overtime victory over the Denver Nuggets 137-131 Thursday night (Friday morning, Philippine time), at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California.

Curry was also perfect from the charity stripe on 8 tries and had 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block to pace the Warriors to their second consecutive win, thus far this season.

Aaron Gordon had his career night spoiled with the loss. He finished with career-high 50 points and shot 10-for-11 from the rainbow territory. However, three-time league MVP Nikola Jokic was atrocious from deep, hitting only 2 of his 13 shot attempts, but still finished with a triple-double of 21 points, 13 board, and 10 dimes for the Nuggets. Jamal Murray also contributed a double-double of 25 markers and 10 assists for Denver.

Jimmy Butler III followed up his great opening night performance with a solid one, as he stuffed the stats sheet with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals for the Warriors. Five other Warriors contributed at least 11 markers to help the team stay undefeated.

The Warriors will travel to Portland to face the Trail Blazers Friday night (Saturday morning, Philippine time).

Meanwhile, the Nuggets will travel home to host the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night (Sunday morning, Philippine time).
