Quizon wins Kamatyas Chess Championship By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Mon, 21 Feb 2022 PARANAQUE CITY---International Master Daniel Quizon dominated the Kamatyas Rapid Invitational Chess Championship (Over The Board) last Saturday, February 19 at the MultiSys Headquarters Multinational Village here. Quizon, a Southeast Asian Games representative, collected 7.5 points on six wins, and three draws. He was in a three-way tie on top with International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia of Manila and National Master Mark Jay Bacojo of Dasmariñas City, Cavite. But the 17-year old Dasmariñas City, Cavite pride took the top honors by virtue of superior tiebreak points. Garcia finished second followed by Bacojo with 7.5 points. "I am very happy with this victory," said Quizon, a Grade 11 pupil of Dasmariñas Integrated High School (DIHS), playing under the banner of sportsman Pidi Barzaga Jr. and national coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas. International Master Paulo Bersamina of Pasay City finished fourth with 7.0 points along with Chester Neil Reyes of Rodriguez, Rizal and Fide Master Nelson Villanueva of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, who also have the same score. Rounding up to the top 10 with 6.5 points each were seventh Fide Master David Elorta of Manila, eight International Master Richelieu Salcedo III of Cagayan de Oro City, ninth Fide Master Robert Suelo Jr. of Quezon City and tenth Fide Master Roel Abelgas of Dasmariñas City, Cavite. Adjudged category winners are Internatonal Master Chito Garma of Manila (top senior), Mark Gerald Reyes of Rodriguez, Rizal (top junior), Woman National Master Jerlyn Mae San Diego of Dasmariñas City, Cavite (top women) and John Kurt Valencia of Dasmariñas City, Cavite (top kiddie). Earlier, Founder and CEO of software engineering solutions provider Multisys Technologies Corp.
