Bakbakan sa Ilocos Sur 2022 By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Sun, 13 Feb 2022 Boxing aficionados led by Governor Ryan Louis Singson and local government officials bore witness to an overwhelming victory by Al Toyogon versus Joe Tejones during the super featherweight main event of the 2022 Bakbakan sa Ilocos Sur Pro Boxing - Mixed Martial Arts and Muay Thai Tournament at Quirino Stadium, Bantay Ilocos Sur. After an initial round of feeling out his opponent, Toyogon threw a combination which landed perfectly, bringing Tejones to the canvas with 2:21 remaining in the second round of the 10-round event. While Tejones was able to resume boxing, another flurry by Toyogon sealed Tejones’ fate. Unable to recover from the second knockdown, referee Sammy Bernabe Sr. brought the fight to a halt to the boisterous cheers of the crowd. In the supporting main bout, Elorde South Box’s Jules Victoriano scored a TKO victory against Dave “The Triggerman” Barlas of Polomolok, South Cotabato in the third round. Meanwhile, the match between Sabang, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur boxing prodigy Eusebio Corota Jr. in his professional debut versus Benguet’s Josaphat Navarro of the SiamYout Nak Muay Stable ended in a split draw. The Tamayo brothers of MP Malabon Gym also notched wins under their belts in the respective bouts. Bryan Tamayo scored a unanimous decision against Aroel Romasasa of Elorde Boxing while Gary Tamayo won against Jeffrey Francisco of BMA Center Gym Alabang A headbutt by opponent Carl Jeffrey Basil of Mabikas Boxing Stable Baguio led to a technical decision win by flyweight Elmar Zamora ng MP Malabon Gym based on the score cards. In the pro Muay Thai main bout, Adrian Gemar of Elorde Ilocos Sur did not disappoint the local fans by winning a unanimous decision victory versus Mark Joseph Abrillo of Yawyan Kampilan. Elorde Southbox Richard Lachica’s pro debut fight in the Pro MMA match resulted in a win via submission versus Daryl Mayormita ng Yawyan Kampilan - Las Pinas In the women’s MMA category, Florivic Montero of Elorde Southbox scored a win in her pro debut against MIG Fitness Gym’s Mary Glyde Elizabeth Salazar while Elorde Southbox’s Gretel de Paz won via unanimous decision in her match against Kalagway MMA Baguio City’s Rosemarie Recto. In the preceding matches organized by Elorde Boxing Stable Promotions helmed by Maria Laureta Elorde, Alexander Almacen of Marty Elorde Boxing won against Benson Awidan of Mabikas Boxing Stable; Ali Canega of Marty Elorde Stable won against Menard Abila ng Daraga Albay; Jovil Amistoso of Elorde Southbox triumphed over Justine Polido of Makati City; Jonniel Laurente of VSP Boxing Vietnam won against Jufel Salina of Hardstore Monis La Union; Aljum Pelisio won via unanimous decision against Fernan Agencia of Knockout Boxing Gym; Reymark Alicaba of SiamYout Nak Muay took home a majority decision win against Melvin Mananquil of Elorde Boxing; and Ranelio Quizo of Elorde Southbox won via TKO against Philip Luis Querdo of Penalosa Boxing Gym Libis. Governor Ryan Singson extended his thanks to the people who gave their support for the tournament which was done in partnership with the local government of Ilocos Sur.
