NESTHY PETECIO BEATS TOP-SEED LIN YU-TING TO ENTER QUARTERFINALS By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Mon, 26 Jul 2021 Nesthy Petecio of the Philippines pulled off an upset victory over World No. 1 Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan at the Kokugigan Arena in Tokyo Monday afternoon to advance into the quarterfinals of the Women's Featherweight at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Petecio got the nod of the four judges in round one but Lin returned the favor in round two as four judges gave her the round leaving the final round the deciding factor of the match. In the end Petecio edged Lin with the closest margins as three of the judges ruled the round in her favor while other two gave it to Lin. Final score: Petecio 3, Lin 2. Below are the judges' scorecards: Judge1: Wilfredo Vazquez Calero of Cuba Judge2: Muhammad Arisa Putra Pohan of Indonesia Judge3: Susann Kopke of Germany Judge4: Yaroslav Renev of Russia Judge5: Mohamed Besmi of Algeria Petecio will face Yeni Marcela of Colombia in the quarterfinal on July 28. Marcela edged Stanimira Petrova of Bulgaria, 3-2 in their own closely contested match. The winner of the Petecio vs Marcela matchup will be guaranteed a medal finish. Petecio earlier beat Marcelat Sakobi Matshu of the Democratic Republic of Congo, 5-0, in the round of 32. Lin had a bye in round of 32 but was sent packing early by Petecio in round of 16. The Philippine Olympic boxing fighters are on a roll winning all of their fights so far. Earlier, Carlo Paalam dispatched Brendan Irvine of Ireland, 4-1, in their Men's Flyweight Round of 32 matchup. Yesterday Irish Magno defeated Christine Ongare of Kenya in their own Round of 32 Women's Flyweight matchup. Still to see action is highly-touted Philippine middleweight Eurmir Felix Marcial who took a bye in round of 32 but is waiting for his round of 16 opponent on Thursday, July 29.
