Daud Yordan Continues to fight on for Indonesia

PhilBoxing.com

Daud Yordan.

As fighters from neighboring countries Philippines and Thailand remain major fixtures in world professional boxing and those of Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and even Laos start to make headways in the fight sport domestically as well as internationally, Indonesian boxing continues to struggle.

This struggle is personified by Daud Cino Yordan, now a 33 year old veteran who has been fighting for nearly fifteen years in a bid to join Elly Pical, Nico Thomas, Chris John and Muhammad Rachman as truly certified world champions from Indonesia.

For the record, Yordan had already won titles in the featherweight and the lightweight with the fringe International Boxing Organization (IBO) before and after his failed attempt to lift the WBA featherweight crown from Chris John in 2011.

But those are not recognized as world titles by official international record keeping bodies which only considered championships as sanctioned by the big four, namely WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO.

Yordan is set to fight Michael Mokoena in Batu, Indonesia on November 17 for the International Boxing Association (IBA) world and the WBO Oriental titles in the super lightweight, the fourth weight class he will be fighting in.

Mokoena from South Aftica has a record of 15-4 with 10 wins via the short route.

Again, if Yordan is successful, the new championship will not be recognized officially as legitimate world title. But with the WBO regional title also at stake, Yordan is hoping to break into the world top 15 ranking at least with the WBO in his new weight class, the 140 lbs.

In the latest Boxrec rating, Yordan is rated 22nd in the world in the super lightweight while previously he was rated 18th among the lightweights.

He is the only world rated Indonesian fighter on record currently.

In the Batu event, Yordan will be joined by another Indonesian hope, undefeated Ongen Saknosiwi who will be fighting Filipino veteran Marco Demecillo for the IBA world featherweight title in the supporting main event. Demecillo has a record of 24 wins 19 by KO/TKO, 8 losses and 1 draw compared to Saknosiwi's immaculate 7-0 record.

Currently, Cino Yordan has a record of 39 wins, 27 by KO, four losses and one no contest in three weight divisions he has previously fought in from his debut in 2005.

Apart from the points loss to John in their world title fight in 2011, his only other losses came against Celestino Caballero, Simphiwe Vetyeka and the latest to Anthony Crolla in a world lightweight title eliminator last year.

He was only stopped once, in the 12th and final round by Vetyeka in losing his IBO featherweight title in 2012. Vetyeka would proceed to wrest the WBA title from Chris John in 2013 only to lose it by technical decision to Filipino Flash Nonito Donsire in his first defense.

Yordan would gain world fame when he fought future multi division world champion Robert Guerrero to a no contest which was first declared a TKO win for him. He also holds short route wins against Filipinos Robert Allanic, Ricky Sismundo and Lorenzo Villanueva and victories over world rated lightweights Masataka Kato and erstwhile undefeated Pavel Malikov.

In the process he amassed as well as defended international and intercontinental lightweight titles with the WBA and WBO putting him in the world rankings as high for a time as number one in the WBA.

Tough luck he fell short against Crolla in the UK. He should have been the one up there against Jorge Linares or later, Vasyl Lomachenko.

He has bounced back with a win over the usually difficult Thai journeyman Aekmanee Kauwmanee in his last fight.

Here's hoping that the Ketapang native Yordan find better luck in his new weight class to keep Indonesia in the world boxing map.
