"GOLPE-GOLPE" IN ZAMBOANGA SLATED FOR DEC. 1 By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Tue, 20 Nov 2007 It will be the Philippines versus Thailand when big-time boxing makes a return to Zamboanga City on December 1 in a blockbuster card dubbed "Golpe-Golpe Na Zamboanga" at the city's coliseum. "This will signal the return of big-time boxing to Zamboanga City. It's been a long wait. But we are here to stay," said Congressman Erbie Fabian, who inked an agreement with top Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani recently during the WBC Convention for the fights to take place. Headlining the card is WBO Asia-Pacific flyweight champ Draian Francisco who will go up against Thailand's Siwa Raja Gym in the ten-round main event. "This is our initial offering to the fans in Mindanao. We plan to do regular shows in Zamboanga and this is just the beginning," enthused Gello-ani. Local boy Eric Canoy, now fighting out of the Fabian Stable, will take on Sairung Raja Gym in a ten-round featherweight tussle. The other ten-rounder pits John Clifford Ranan of Bohol against Cagayan De Oro's Phil Angcamor of the Kaamino Stable. The rest of the bouts pit Jhon Mark Ranan versus Roland Teofilo; Leczy Tanamor against Ivan Gahisan; Junjun Cantao versus Bernard Maglangit; Jun Rey Gaspar vs Jeffrey Candado; and Rolando Magallano versus Pedring Young, Jr. Meanwhile, fast-rising Mindanao prospect Ciso Morales also recently inked a deal with SGG Promotions to promote his future fights abroad. Morales, accompanied by manager Kenneth Rontal and WBO Asia-Pacific Chairman Leon Panoncillo, signed the agreement with Gello-ani recently in Manila. The tall and power-punching young prospect is slated to see action next on December 22 in Oroquieta City against a soon-to-be-announced opponent. "We have high hopes for this young kid from Talibon, Bohol. He has the discipline and the looks to go big time," said Rontal. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Salven L.
