Saturday's Boxing Card in Bogo Cebu, a Fighting Success: Full Report & Photos

PhilBoxing.com

BOGO, Cebu Province -- Manila promoter Gabriel "Bebot" Elorde came to his ancestral home of Bogo located in the northeastern coast of Cebu province, on the principal island of Cebu, to stage an exciting evening of professional and amateur boxing last Saturday, an event that will be remembered with appreciation in this seaside city on the shores of the Camotes Sea.

In the riveting main event, local Bogo fighter Joe "The Jaw Breaker" Noynay (14-2-1, 4 KO's) had to give his last drop of sweat to defend for the first time his WBO Asia Pacific Youth 130-lbs title as he was awarded a majority decision win over 23-year-old attacker Hector Garcia (12-7-2, 7 KO's) of Tijuana, Mexico.

The encounter was a tough bloody battle that thrilled every fan in attendance as both young warriors threw in the ring their very best effort.

In the co-main event, journeyman Ryan Tampus, 29, of Dipolog could only handle six rounds of war against the reigning WBC ABCO Continental 112-lbs champion Cris Alfante (14-6-1, 6 KO's) of Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte (top photo).

That's because Alfante (whose title was not in the line), kept a steady rain of leather and knuckles on Ryan Tampus till the latter capitulated. The third man in charge was Mr. Teddy Alivio.

In the quickest battle of the evening, 20 year-old super featherweight Al Toyogon (7-2-1, 4 KO's) of Misamis Oriental fast brutalized Boholano Jason Tinampay (8-9-1, 7 KO's) with a lethal attack to the mid-section that left Toyogon in obvious agony, gasping for air.

The brave Tinampay tried to beat the count, but further beating was indeed unnecessary. Time was 1:07 of the first round.

In a very competitive 6-rounder bantamweight clash, Alvin Medura (7-2, 6 KO's) of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay narrowly edged a split decision victory over Lobert Bayo (7-7, 0 KO's) of Mandaue. Bayo thought that he did enough to deserve the win. The referee was Cebuano Nic Banal.

Moreover, unbeaten 20-year-old flyweight Justin Darap (3-0, 2 KO's) of Mandaue outpointed via six round majority decision the hard-swinging Ronel Sumalpong (4-1, 4 KO's) of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur. The southpaw Darap was assisted in his corner by experienced head coach Mr. Brix Flores, a former Asian Games medalist in boxing.

Ricardo Sueno of Bacolod scores a tough left on Jeco Suico.

Also, super flyweight Ricardo Sueno Jr. (7-2-3, 3 KO's) of Bacolod prescribed a round four TKO to the tough Jeco Suico (1-3, 1 KO) of Ayungon, Negros Oriental. Suico - who visited the canvas two times during the battle - finally succumbed due to the effect hard body shots. The third man was the veteran Mr. Teddy Alivio.

In a tough-to-watch super bantamweight fight, Manile?o Chris Paulino (17-3, 7 KO's) ravaged in two rounds veteran former PABA 108-lbs Champion Marvin Tampus (27-26-3, 18 KO's) of Leyte. Paulino punished Marvin Tampus mercilessly, forcing him to the canvas.

The very brave Marvin Tampus - who has lost 14 of his last 15 fights - was professional in battle, trying to equalize actions, but to no avail as Cris Paulino has fast drained him... and it was game over. Mr. Nic Banal was the referee.

After the fight, the GAB ringside physician Dr. Rene Bonsubre checked Marvin Tampus who seemed fine. However, it would be advisable if Marvin hang the gloves for good, for his heatlh, which is the most important.

Machieka Pareno of Gensan Scores Right Hook on Jean De Paz of Naval.

In a special attraction, rookie bantamweight fight girl Machieka Pareno (2-0, 0 KO's) of Gensan defeated for a second time Jean De Paz (0-2, 0 KO's) of Naval, Biliran. Michieka was the most accurate and refined boxer, moving well, scoring the more telling punches throughout the 4-round clash. The third man was again Mr. Teddy Alivio.

It was definitely an exciting boxing event, especially the main fight, worth watching it live.

The ring physicians for the card were Dr. Jose Unabia and Dr. Rene Bonsubre; and the GAB supervisor was Mr. Rolando "Lando" Mendoza.
