NERY-VILLANUEVA MATCH CONTINUES EVEN IF WBC ORDERS YAMANAKA REMATCH By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Thu, 02 Nov 2017 WBC orders Luis Nery-Shinsuke Yamanaka rematch for the WBC bantamweight title. Nery was tested positive for zilpaterol, a cattle steroid. Nery?s team claims that the failed test is due to the substantial amounts of beef that he consumed during training. After consulting with the Health and Sport Ministries of Mexico, the WBC cannot determine if Nery's adverse finding was the result of intentional ingestion of a banned substance to improve his performance. * * * The WBC will monitor Nery?s diet while Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) conducts a random testing protocol. The WBC will request the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA) and VADA to ?establish specific measures and protocols to address Clembuterol and Zilpaterol.? Zilpaterol, similar to the banned substance clenbuterol, has contaminated beef in Mexico. Nery was tested three times in Japan after the failed test and passed each of them. * * * Nery (24-0, 18 KOs), a 22-year-old Mexican southpaw, won the WBC bantamweight title by fourth-round knockout of Yamanaka on August 15 in Kyoto, Japan, but failed a VADA drug test. Yamanaka (27-1-2, 19 KOs), 35, had made 12 previous successful title defenses when he faced Nery and was aiming for win No. 13, which could have tied the Japanese record for world title defenses set in 1980 by the Hall of Famer and then junior flyweight champion Yoko Gushiken. * * * While awaiting the WBC's decision, Nery signed to face former two-time world title challenger ALA Boxing Gym?s ?King? Arthur Villanueva (31-2, 17 KOs), 28, in a 10-round non-title fight on Saturday at Gasmart Stadium in Tijuana. After that fight Nery will be mandated to face Yamanaka next. The camp of Villanueva headed by trainer Edito Villamor said the development on the WBC-ordered rematch would not affect the upcoming fight. * * * Villanueva suffered his two defeats in exciting world title fights with Puerto Rican McJoe Arroyo by tecnical decision for the vacant IBF world super flyweight title on July 18, 2015 and South African Zolani Tete by unanimous decision for the interim WBO world bantamweight title last April 22. Villanueva won the vacant WBO international super flyweight title after his destruction of Mexico's Edgar Martinez whom he dropped twice on the very first round in October 2013. * * * MMA superstar Conor McGregor wants a boxer in an MMA bout and told BBC he would beat Floyd Mayweather in a rematch. McGregor, spoke ahead of the premiere of his documentary "Conor McGregor: Notorious." He said his next fight would be to defend his UFC lightweight title. "Right now I am focused on my world, the world of true fighting," McGregor said. "Ideally I would like to take one of the boxers into an MMA bout, someone come into my world now." * * * "I went into their platform and faced the so-called best-of-the-best and I handled him pretty easily in the early rounds, before I got fatigued and got stopped." But McGregor said he would beat Mayweather in a rematch by changing his training style. "He was a tactical genius in there. He changed his gameplan three times and that is the sign of a true champion. If it happened in a rematch, it's a simple adjustment of me having a heavier sparring partner coming in the later rounds." * * * UFC President Dana White discussed the idea of promoting boxing events in 2018. UFC, which almost monopolizes Mixed Martial Arts, was a big part of the promotion for the match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor. According to White, boxers will be better suited to fight under the UFC compared to the large boxing promoters like Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions. He believes several boxers will head to the UFC once they see the numerous perks for boxers who will fight for the UFC. * * * ?I just know how good we are at what we do, and I know we?re better than pretty much everybody else out there,? White said to Jim Rome's Podcast. He said they have the best facility, the UFC Performance Institute, a state-of-the-art facility with every piece of equipment for recovery and getting stronger. They have a restaurant that fighters can eat at everyday for free. They have a physical therapy center for free. And they have health insurance for their fighters. too. * * * Approximately 78,000 fans filled Principality Stadium in Cardiff for the Anthony Joshua-Carlos Takam heavyweight title fight. Showtime?s live broadcast of Joshua-Takam drew an average audience of 334,000 viewers. Joshua?s win over Wladimir Klitschko drew a live average audience of 659,000, nearly double that of Joshua-Takam. The replay by HBO was watched by an average of 738,000 viewers. A crowd of roughly 90,000 filled Wembley Stadium for Joshua-Klitscho. * * * NBA Standings Eastern Conference 1 Boston 6-2 2 Orlando 6-2 3 Charlotte 5-3 4 Detroit 5-3 5 Indiana 5-3 6 Toronto 4-3 7 Washington 4-3 8 Milwaukee 4-4 9 Philadelphia 4-4 10 Miami 3-4 11 New York 3-4 12 Brooklyn 3-5 13 Cleveland 3-5 14 Chicago 1-5 15 Atlanta 1-7 * * * NBA Standings Western Conference 1 L.A.
