Filipino Carlo Magali Captures OPBF Silver Belt in First Boxing Event in Malaysia in 42 years By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Tue, 11 Jul 2017 June 30, 1975. It was Heavyweight World Champion Muhammad Ali against Joe Bugner for the undisputed Heavyweight Championship of the World, a historic battle in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. That was the last time that Malaysia had a boxing event till Sunday (July 9) when Filipino Carlo Magali fought and won the OPBF Silver Super Featherweight Title. What an unexpected honor for the 30-year-old Magali who hails from the paradise Island of Bohol. Carlo Magali (21-9-3, 10 KO's) of Highland Boxing Gym scored his 10th round TKO over then-undefeated fighter Sandeep Balhara of Rohtak, India, at Mid Valley Exhibition Center in the Malaysian Capital, Kuala Lumpur. The more experienced Magali showed more fighting resources throughout the intense bloody clash, knocking down the strong Balhara two times in the 10th chapter, forcing the end of the actions. The third man in the ring was none other than international referee Mr. Bruce MacTavish of Angeles City, Pampanga. The Magali-Balhara rumble for the OPBF Silve Title Sunday (July 9) night in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was a production of young promoter Raymond Lew; and boxing now fans in Malaysia want to see more.
