XU TKO?S SABU, LIU OUTSLUGS ANGKOTTA By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Sun, 11 Jun 2017 JINAN, CHINA ? Xu Que, the reigning WBO Greater China featherweight titlist, knocked down Waldo Sabu of Indonesia in round five and stopped him in the subsequent round in one of main supporting bouts of the Major League Boxing fight card held Saturday at the Huang Ting Stadium in Jinan City. Xu dominated the fight, firing crisp combinations from the opening bell and used a well-timed left hook to drop Sabu in the fifth. The Indonesian got up but continued to receive hard punches in the sixth and final round prompting Referee Han Hongxiang to correctly stop the beating at the 0:45 mark. Xu (10-2-1,3KO?s) earned the WBO Greater China featherweight belt by winning the 126lb division finals of the League of Fists tournament in season one. Sabu drops to his ninth loss at 12-9, 2KO?s. He was scheduled to fight in Cebu City this July 8 against Albert Pagara. Sabu has lost three straight fights by the short route. Liu Yongcai (5W-4D-3D,3KO?s) battered veteran Angky Angkotta (28W-15L-1D,14KO?s) of Indonesia with well placed shots to the body and head for the full six rounds enroute to a lopsided unanimous decision win. A cut due to a headbutt in round three inflicted a vertical cut above Liu?s left eyebrow but this did not slow down his punch output. Angkotta resorted to clowning in the last two rounds. The scores ? 60-54 from Qiao Tiezhu, Mekin Sumon and Sawaeng Thaweekoon. Angkotta is a familiar name to fight fans for being the only boxer who has beaten three-division champion Donnie Nietes of the Philippines way back in 2004 by split decision in a non-title fight where Angkotta was six pounds over the limit. In a sixteen year pro career, Angkotta has lost to big names like Mexicans Jorge Arce and Fernando Montiel and world ranked prospects Paul Fleming of Australia and Filipino Genesis Servania. Liu lost in the League of Fists super featherweight finals last year in Beijing by technical decision in the seventh round to Pan Jin Xiang. Xu Que, together with SECA boxers Liu Yongcai, Li Tonghui and Qu Peng were in the United States for two months for a training stint with Top Rank. Last May, Qu stopped Robbie Mendes in one round in Chicago while Li beat Daniel Calzada by unanimous decision in New York on the undercard of Terence Crawford?s successful defense vs. Felix Diaz. The double main event of this card featured two WBO Greater China championship bouts. Liu Zhong beat Chen Sen by unanimous decision to win the 122lb division title while Wuzhati Nuerlang won by TKO in the fifth round against Maimaitijiang Nuermamati after the latter decided not to continue fighting due to an injured right elbow. Wuzhati won the 175 lb title. (See separate story) The League of Fists professional boxing tournament has been renamed MAJOR LEAGUE BOXING. The winners of the respective divisions in this tournament received a WBO Greater China title belt. For the rest of the undercards: Dong Youli beat Aman Bahetiyaer knockout in round one.
